she wont have a shortlist before the birth, they kind of decide on the day.
I have decided I will tell her we're having a XXX and naming the baby <name>
That way if she uses it, she already kows that we will be - if it doesnt worry her it doesnt worry me.

Sounds like a good plan rayray. It is sooooo hard to decide on a name, and if you and DH really like it, then i say run with it. When my mum was preg with my bro, her and dad decided on Steven. It was difficult for them to agree. 2 months before he was born my aunyy had a boy called Stephen. They stuck with Steven and it seriously has NEVER been as issue. I never thought it was even wierd until i had to name my own children and i asked mum about it.

We still havn't got a boys name. perhaps i should start a thread and throw some ideas around.....

Given that I have a preference for uncommon names I would change it... to keep it uncommon... but that's just me. I would have been devestated if anyone close to me had chosen my DD's name because I was VERY keen on that one... but the boys had a few alternatives i could have drawn upon if necessary.

    Maz your a classic LOL!
im the same as Bath i like more uncommon names and if it was used by a close friends id be devistated and probably voiced my opinion!

i think its only classed as stealing if u have had a convo about names and told ur friend what name you will have and THEN they have a bub first and use it. if its a strange co-incendance i think it would be quiet ironic and be a bit special....

Oh... this is a touchy subject for me ATM!!!

I went to a baby shower a couple months ago (I was just about to have the 19 week scan). The mother-to-be asked me if we'd come up with any names. I'd said we'd come up with a boys name, but no girls as yet. I knew she was having a boy, but the names she liked were nothing like what we'd chosen, so I didn't feel too concerned about telling the the one and only boys name we had come up with.

She had her little boy last week and guess what name she picked... YEP! THE ONE I TOLD HER!

There's NO WAY I'd use that name now... even though people have told me that it doesn't matter because I only see her once in a blue moon. It's tainted now a far as I'm concerned!

Moral to the story. If you've got a name you like, keep it to yourself!!!
