out of your list i like tabitha and evangeline the best.
Well, lots of names that I like are unusual or old-fashioned, so I was wondering what your opinions are on using them for children. The names I'm talking about are Dorian, Jasper, Cordelia, Deirdre, Darla, Delilah, Tabitha, Drusilla, Evangeline and Salomé. Would it be strange to name a child any of those names, since they were more common a long time ago? And what's your opinion on using unusual old-fashioned names in general?
out of your list i like tabitha and evangeline the best.
:yeahthat:
I dont think its strange to name a child any name....well most names anyway iykwim! I think each name is individual and pretty soon you cant imagine that child with any other name and once people used to it then that just that childs name. I have only ever met 2 kids where I have thought 'wow, I didnt think you looked like a....'.
When we named DD as silly as it sounds I didnt even know it was an old fashioned name!
I like:
Jasper
Delilah
Evangeline
I don't think it would be strange. I guess you have to take into account whether the child will be teasted or taunted just because of their name at school etc.
I personally am all for unsual names! I not very traditioanl when it comes to names and I like it fine!
Obviously I again wouldnt chose anything that would have my kids teased etc.
I looooove old fashioned names, especially on little girls! Just from your list, I love: Evangeline, Tabitha, and Delilah. They're so pretty, and make me think of those pretty Victorian-era postcards...
i agree with pp's - old fashioned names are beautiful, and actually in fashion again!
if you're interested, type in 1920's baby names into google, and it'll come up with their most popular names registry, i think you'll like a lot of them!
I love old fashioned names, and my DS2 has a very old fashioned one (Montgomery). You can be pretty much assured he is the only one in his class with that name![]()
I loooooooooooooooooove them. Esme, Iris, Violet, Patience, Evelyn, Beatrice, Aubrey, Percival... I could go on for hours. And I don't think any of them are unusual, they're just uncommon.
I prefer names that have stood the test of time to names that are made up. But I guess they all get made up somewhere along the line.
As pp have said they are just un common not unusual.
Out of your list I like
, Jasper, and Evangeline.
Other ideas are Audrey, Anabel, Merideth, Addison, Ethal, Samuel, Eleanor, Maggie, Dawn, Keneth, Evelyn,
I like more classic names, as long as you don't hear them and immediately think of a dead celebrity or old people smell.
I'm due in 3 days, there's a few old-fashioned boy's names on this thread already, throw me some more, people!![]()
Well thats pretty good, it looks like you all like them too
Thanks for the suggestion! I checked out the most popular names from the 20's and some of the ones that I love I didn't even know they were popular back then! Like Cora and Virginia. I also found Genevieve on the list, which I love too but forgot to mention![]()
i went with old fashioned and unusual but not out there
reading your list, i get the feeling you may be an Angel fan though (cordelia and drusilla!) - maybe that's my own thing though! lol
i say if you like it, go for it.
I love old fashioned and classic names. My DD is a Tess and GF named her little girl Ingrid. I also have an Oscar.
Audrey is coming back!! Alot of the old fashioned names are coming back in favour again.
From your list I like Tabitha and Jasper.
Have a look at the Births deaths and marriages website for your state. You can see all the registered birth names from the time they starting recording them back int he early 1900's..there are some absolutley beautiful names on the register.
I love them. If I have another DD I would so love to call her Delilah, however DH's cousin has a DD called Delanie, he thinks it is to close.
I love a lot of your names, Tabitha was on our list, and I loved older names like Enid and Elsbeth too. Not so fussed on those that have Buffy connotations, like Drusilla or Darla, but I love love love Dorian and Jasper. I think I would steer clear of Salome because of the bible story and the cultural references that have arisen since (read the wikipedia article if you don't know about it).
I think the old fashioned names are much better then these new celebrity names .. Apple? Blueberry? God knows what other ones there are lol .. And how many fans have named their kids after them.. A friend of mine has a 2year old called Eleanor .. I think its cute

(oh i'd love a DS with the his middle name Leo)
on your list i like Drusilla & Evangeline (would you believe my Mum just gave my DD yesterday a very old porcelain doll and her name is Evangeline) !!
