Variances on names

Hi All

Just a quick one. I have a daughter called Eliza. Am currently pregnant with my second child and if it is a girl one of the names I love is ISabel. Problem (or is it?)is that both names are derivatives of Elizabeth.

Do you think this matters? To be honest I hadn't given this a thought until I did some more research and now am unsure.

I don't think they are too alike and the nicknames would be different for both eg Liz/Lizzie/Beth and Belle/Issie etc I have 2 friends who have a Nathan and a Jonathon which are pretty similar and thye manage OK.

I agree, and it would give them a special connection to each other.

Isabel is actually Elizabeth, they are both Hebrew and have the same meaning, surprisingly

For me they are too similar. And the nic names are too similar. Just my opinion! lol but perhaps if you like Isabel you may like Isolde, Illiana, Arabella, Galina, Esmeralda, Arimeah, Gabriella, Addison...

Most people would not know that Isabel & Eliza are derivatives of the same name (I didn't know either), so I don't think this is a strong enough reason for deciding not to use Isabel.

If you love the name, go for it. I also agree that there are nicknames that are sufficiently different. What do you call your daughter for short?
