    Would it be weird

To have two daughters named Elizabeth and Bethany?

No, not weird at all. Elizabeth would probably get Liz or Lizzy as a nickname while Bethany will be Beth.

They are lovely names by the way.

Personally I think they're too close. When you write them one after the other you write Beth twice. I know a family with a Stephanie and Stephen and that's too close too. But they are nice names.

I think it really depends on what Elizabeth gets shortened to. If she gets Liz, Liza, Libby etc., that'd work fine, but if it's Beth... you might end up with 2 girls who get called the same thing.

I don't think so, they're totally different names, and it took me a minute to work out why you were even posting LOL

As Santosha said if Elizabeth gets Liz or Lizzie as a nickname then I see no problem with little sister being Beth.

I have a DD Matilda, if people insist on shortening her name we prefer it to be to Maddie.
We also love the names Madison and Madeline but we are avoiding them for this reason.

Very personal decision I think , there is always going to be someone to disagree!

I do think there are a little close, but it is your choice. They are both lovely names.

I have friends with three daughters
    Melanie
    Melissa
    Larissa

    Now they are close names!

i think its fine. i dont know any elisabeths who have been shortened to beth and it wouldnt happen anyway if people know she had a sister already called beth. go for it. (plus they are pretty names )

Nice names but I think they are a bit too close for me. I imagine that you might have two little girls looking up every time you used the name of one of them. Also if I were the second child I'd want something different to my older sibling (who she might get comparisons with anyway for half her life).

I personally wouldn't do it, because there are always going to be people (usually grandparents) who will use their full names all the time.

i had to read your post a few times to understand what the problem might be.
I dont have any issue with the 2 names.

i dont think they are similar to get confused either.

    go for it

    Hmm, I'm not sure.

I have an Elizabeth and an Isabelle - I'm always stumbling over it and calling them the wrong name or a strange combination of both
