Ahhhhh....just figured it out....yep go for it......DD loves the show too :), she's got the pronunciation down pat so I'm sure other people will get the hang of it. The first time she told me off for saying it wrong then told me the right way!

Personally I prefer the sound of Azarias, but I quite like the sound of the other name too. I'm not a fan of the spelling though. I know of a little boy with a similar name and I like the look of the way his name is spelt better. If you like I could pm it to you so I don't make the other name too obvious (although I think a lot of people have already guessed correctly ;) ).
From someone with a name constantly spelt and pronounced differently, it's frustrating but as a parent I wouldn't let that stop me from using a name like that. It's not THAT frustrating really, except when I'm spelling it and people STILL spell it wrong AS I'm spelling it... but thats another thread! I think I know the name, and I like it. Pingu is a great name
I say go for it!
I have a niece and her name is Aoife (eefa)..her Mum is Irish and sticks with Irish names for her kids.
Not a single person can pronounce it correctly when they see it wrritten down and she gets called up at Dr's office's by Baby ...... :)
It it such a beautiful name and when they go back to Ireland, every second girl is called Aoife, it's one of the top 10 names in Ireland.
Stick to your guns and gut instinct it's worth it in the end. It is a great name :D
Lol I was going to say that too leash! Could you drop the l? Caiou hmm nah not right is it?
Dammit why couldn't you have posted that earlier? I just spent ages googling ABC2 and downloading a french pronunciation for it hahaha
I LOVE the spelling but yea, as I said, had to google how to pronounce it, I have never see the show... The spelling looks great! Not being all up there with the French language at all myself, if I came across it I would probably call the poor bubba "Kayloo"
Love the name though! Bah what's it matter if you have to pronounce your name these days?? I have to do it all the time (I am an Ah-lee-see-ah not an Ah-lee-sha) and just makes me feel special for being different hahaha yea it can be a PITA but seriously, no biggie in the entire scheme of things??
I like it!
Ahhh Alicia - you may not know it now.. but you will when the Cruz man is bigger!!! LOL
Ezy - -yeah its just weird yeah?
Kaiou instead of Caiou?
What about Kiyu? Or Caiyu? Doesn't look as nice as Calliou though....
They do have those lists over there of the most popular names. Definitely give it a google...
If I really loved the name I'd do it, but then again the fact the name would have to be pronounced and spelled out would kinda make me not like it as much kwim?
As for Caillou I do like it but you're right Mel, it is hard to come up with an alt spelling. Other variations just don't look right....
Caillou
Kyu
Kaiyu
Kyyou
Keyew
Kyew
Caiyou
Kaiyou
Kaiyoo
Kyoo
Kaioo
Caiewe
Cyyooh
I love that name! Ds loves that show...I thought maybe it was Poko or dirtgirl
I thought Poko too! But that's pretty easy to pronounce lol
I really like it and if saw it would know how to say it because of the show. I sometimes have second thoughts over DD name (Cerys) because so many people don't know how to say it but the second thoughts are really because I just never thought about that aspect, is more common in uk than here because of proximity to Wales so it just never occurred to me. It suits her so well I just wish had made an informed decision, so as you have thought about it and is such a nice name definitely go with it.
Can't you tell us what the name is??? I don't watch much tv so I have no hope of figuring it out...
Dirtgirl!! Yeah!
So that is your girl name & boy name sorted ;)
As for Caillou, I like it - but what matters is whether you love it. I wouldn't worry so much about other people being able to spell or pronounce it, if you guys love it, then use it.
You could always give him a simpler middle name so he has the choice to use that if it's all too much? I have a friend who did that. But it might not be an issue, besides I ahve seen some really simple names get mangled, it can be an issue no matter what, you know?
I love it! But then I love French names (obviously). Kids learn to spell their own name so I would spell it the way that you want to. FWIW Genevieve can write her own name at 4 and has no problems spelling it.
It looks French so even if people don't know how to pronounce it from seeing it they would probably ask.
I coul never do it to my kids, but that is me speaking as someone who always grew up having to spell her name for other people and having it mispronounced all the time. But I think your kids names are so unique and perfect for them that if you didn't use it and went with something else, you'd probably always regret not using it.
Wow i guessed right! I never guess right lol.
Naw thanks Trill!!! Thats so lovely of you to say
Although, my sister is going to have some serious trouble with this - Eden wasn't called Airlea like she was going to be because my sister just could not get the pronounciation right.
And DH's parents will definitely have to have the spelling written on the fridge for a while - they had Aricyn and Mehkelti written on the fridge for the first 6 months of their lives so they could keep referring back to it
ROFL! These days there are so many names that are beyond pronunciation that Caillou isn't really that big a deal I would think. Plus my kids names are reasonably safe I would have thought, yet I have had several welcome cards for them with incorrect spelling, so no name is safe really.
This may or may not matter to you, but I don't think Caillou is actually a name - it means pebble. Anyway, it's hell of a lot easier to pronounce than Pororo!! (my dd loves that show, but calls it 'la la la' because Pororo is so hard to say).
OK, now that you have told the name, the name I was talking about (a little boy from my mother's group) is Kaya (pronounced Ky-ah). Although of course I personally love Kyson the most ;)
I didn't mean to suggest that it's a bad meaning - just thought you might like to know :).
I already knew ;)
I googled a few days ago.. LOL
my own name isn't a hard one to pronounce or spell but yet i have spent now nearly 4 decades having to correct and verbally repeat my own name on a staggering rate ... it's never driven me too crazy but i have had the odd moment where i think OMG wish my name was an easier one and yet at the same time am thankfully it's not super unusual then i think i would've have gone nuts with it !!
I think it doesnt matter if it's hard or easy to pronounce or spell because people will get it wrong anyway. People always add an "e" on the end of mine, they drop a "d" or add an "s" for DD or call her another namethat satrts the same & ends completely different. With the baby we have changed the spelling because I like the look of how it is spelt now & we thought some people would pronounce it wrong with the original spelling. As far as where we got the names from DD's is a bicycle race, & the baby's is partly from a kids tv show on Nick Jnr
I think i know which one your talking bout but not 100% sure.....
I say go for it... my name is Leah, short and EASY and i am still correcting people, not it's not LEE and yes there is a H not theres no G like LEIGH... no matter what people will always ask or get it wrong, if you like it.. go for it!
Yep, I agree with others - we are always helping people with spelling or saying my kids names. It doesn't matter how simple. You may as well be spelling a name you really like if you have to keep spelling it and saying it for people ;)
I have the song stuck in my head now...
Think the problem may come from so many people changing the spelling of 'easy' or 'normal' names - I got asked to spell CHARLOTTE - TWICE -= yesterday :wall: One of the women said to me 'well, you never know these days do you'... lol
Well Nina for starters would love it. She LOVES that show, and has called all of her teddies (bar one) Caillou lol. I think it's a cute name.
I say use it. Youd prob be surprised at how many parents and kids can spell AND prn it BECAUSE of the tv show.
Its a fave in our house (the show) and I do think the name is sweet.
i think it's an awesome name. i would spell it exactly how it is spelt on the show.
fwiw- i get asked to spell both my ds's names all the time. ds2 is jimmy- i mean, come on, can you seriously not spell that??
Im the kid that people always get my name wronge! No big deal, really I just correct them;)
Go for it :)
I like it too!!!! Damn that song is stuck in my head now!! I just googled the lyrics so I could sing it properly, lol.
