    Baba sling help!

After researching slings, I got a baba sling when I was pregnant because I thought it would best suit my needs.

I ended up having a large baby (at 3 weeks old his length is 59cm and weighs nearly 5kg) and I favour the position of having him lie across me ( I think it's the hammock position, but I have his head up the end of the bit that goes over my shoulder).

To me he seems too long for this position, so I think I'm doing something wrong.

Firstly, the padded bit (with the label) that's supposed to go on one shoulder rides up onto my neck and the sling bit kind of twists.

Secondly, my baby seems cramped in this position, is he supposed to be able to stretch his legs right out in this position? They kind of bunch up and this really worries me.

Thirdly, when he's in it, there seems to be a lot of excess fabric bunched up under him, does that mean he's supposed to be like inside it more? But if he was, it would cover his head.

    I don't know??? I just don't get it.

I thought it would be exceptionally easy to use (which is why I got it over the HAB) but it's not and I really need it at the moment as I can't put him down at all during the day and am unable to get anything done without a sling.

I'm at my end with it and even considering an ergo with the insert thingy, but it's exxy, like around $200 all up.

    Please help! ARGh!

    TIA

    Tara,
It sounds exactly how it has been when I have used the Baba Sling with Harrison... he loves to be curled up though... I adjust him and the sling until I am comfortable... there always is a lot of excess material... but some times I use this to slightly cover him... especially on colder days.
I'm not even sure if we're doing it the right way, but it certainly works for us.
The only thing I can suggest is to put it on, put Leo in it, fiddle around and see how you go.
Sorry I haven't been much help!!! lol

I have exactly the same problem so will be watching this thread. I really need someone experienced to show me in person. Does anyone know anywhere in Brisbane I can go?

I never figured out how to use my baba sling with my first baby. I was thinking I might try it again this time though. If you do a google for baba sling there is a website which has pictures of the 7 positions you can use it in. I'm not sure if they will help since I haven't tried myself but you could check it out.

    Tara,
I found mine hard to use at first aswell, Nathan sounds like he was the same size as your bub at the same age, although he was born 59cm, lol.
It is all trial and error til you find the most comfortable position for you and your bub. At first I found that my babies got lost inside although I lined the bottom of the sling with a folded nappy, (Cloth one, lol)this helped not only boost them up but was great for moving baby up into the right position. I breastfed my babies and went shopping hands free, it can be done, you just have to adjust it to fit you. I still use mine although I put Lissy (2 1/2) in it and push Nate in a pram, probably neeed to swap them over now that Nathan can climb out of the pram and Lissa will stay in it now. lol.

Practise wearing it around the house and yard to work out the best position for you both. My DH loves it he takes it out when we go out together, he likes to wear the baby as he said I did it for 9 months it's now his turn, Lol.

Tara- i passed my baba on to someone caz it did my head in too, think i only once got it to work so that Eden wasnt a mushed up mess....
bubs is sposed to be pretty squished in to it, thats why they settle feeling totally surrounded, THe HAB is soooooooooooooo worth the money, or even better i think its FionaJill who sells ones similiar to it for 1/4 of the price....
Apart from the practice, but i think its hard witha new bub caz they are so floppy and hard to manouevre(sp?)... have you tried putting bub in it on the bed and then leaning down and clipping it on? i found this helped a little.
Hope it works soon for you, baby wearing is the best!!!!!!!!!!

Just in case anyone is still wondering about this - check out the baba website (it's printed on the sling) because it has wearing instructions. I have only used mine with my two year old, but the reason I bought it was for the new babe so that I can breastfeed discreetly - I believe that is the main purpose of lots of fabric (aswell as that it can also carry up to a three year old or so!)

    Good luck with it, Clairey

BABA SLING to hot in summer or not?

The slings are made from 100% cotton, and choose i lighter shade colour of the black, that seems to be very popular, and i never found them to be to hot. in fact i found it very cool actually...where in Qld are you?
