I got my new Mai Tai today I've got it on my back, but I've just had another look at the instructions and apparently I did it wrong They say I'm supposed to cross the straps over each other at the back - I've crossed them at the front. Is it completely necessary to cross at the back? It seems it'd be a lot more comfortable this way...

Just joining as well - ive been reading for a little while but had my first real go at baby wearing today. I have a close carrier for dd & she seemed to like it - well she slept in it. It felt comfy altho my back was a little sor. Im putting that down to only being less than a week since i gave birth. I did feel like i had to hold my hands under her the whole time just in case. Even though i knew she was secure.

Teni - many women find crossing the straps at the front uncomfortable due to boobs. If it's comfy for you and she's still secure, then I don't see why you can't do it that way. Where are you tying the straps?

sloane - i found the CC very uncomfortable. It doesn't fit everyone right - all structured carriers have this problem, in that they will only fit a certain range of sizes and shapes. Where is the X on your back - right down low or up fairly high? Where is she - up at 'kissable' height? Sometimes it's just a matter of adjusting things slightly to get the best fit. Does she feel a bit saggy/not quite secure?

The boob-squish was a bit uncomfy, now I think about it... I crossed at the front, brought the straps under her bum at the back, then to the front again to tie it. I tried adjusting them to cross at the back but couldn't figure out how to do it I'm not that stretchy in my arms!

i think the X may have been a little high up on my back. her head was kind of just below kissable (if that makes sense!!). she felt really secure - i think i was just being a bit of a newbie at baby wearing! i'll have to have a play around - i'm guessing that perhaps the X should have been a bit lower?

I was told the X should be low down, yep. And her head should be kissable - if she's lower, you may find you get back strain.
Yeah, play around a bit - hopefully you'll find the sweet spot. It was too big for me to adjust properly.

Teni- so you crossed front & back then?

Yeah, but not to form an actual cross shape like the instructions show :-/ Hard to explain I suppose lol

Do you mean like in this CLIP? that's a lexi-twist in the back (where you cross, and cross again). You don't have to do that. You can just cross under the bum instead. Or even do the lexi-twist under the bum

Im keen to buy a woven wrap, I have a HAB, but feel that wrapping will suit me (and hopefully bub) so keen for a few different types.
I'm eyeing off a Wrapsody Bali Stretch Carrier, anything I should know, anyone else have one? should I go for it or stay clear?? It is just so much cheaper than all the other wovens I've seen...

Teirae, is it a carrier or a wrap?

Teirae like them a lot, they are whats called a hybrid, so they are soft like a tshirt (where as a woven is like a tablecloth ROFL) but they only have width ways stretch not length so they dont get the 'sag' as bub gets heavier like true stretchies. It wont be supportive for as long as a 'toddler-worthy' woven but they are soooo comfy. The other plus is they have good resale if you love wrapping and decide to upgrade to woven down the track.

T- there are TWO 4.5m Vatanai jacquards on the fb page right now. either would be great for a newbie wrapper. very soft and easy to wrap with, i reckon. i actually just come on to urge someone to buy them. they're not really my colours, thankfully

Okay, I think I need to now disconnect from my wrap buying and just practice with what I've got for a while. The only size I don't have is 5 and 7 and I can't see myself needing a 5 with two 4s and two 6s. I wouldn't know what to do with a 7! What is it good for (apart from testing your coordination to the max, I assume)?

I found my HAB for DD1, although not recommended for toddlers, absolutely fine right up until I stopped wearing her (around two). She was a feather weight of a child though. So I'm guessing even the wraps that are not as supportive would depend on the wrapper and the wrappee. My wovens are def more supportive, but I wasn't wearing DD1 very much at all once she started running around at 11 mths.

This baby I can see being totally happy to be worn until she starts school. She's a completely different baby already.

Hi ladies thought I'd pop in and say hi.

I have just bought a close carrier second hand on gum tree, can't wait until it arrives. I didn't wear dd1 but got a baby hawk Mei tai for dd2 and it was one of the best purchases. The new pram with toddler seat was a big waste of money as I could count on one hand the number of times I used it! Dd2 would sleep within five minuts of being popped in the Mei tai. I have tried using it twice with dd3 but can't get it to work as well so I've splurged and got the close carrier. With two other littlies I can see baby wearing will be even more necessary than previously.

I'm sure I'll be back to pick everyone's brains for tips later on
