To soften my oscha I've washed, tumbled dried on low and steam ironed. Oscha 100% linens are probably the hardest to break in. Other things you can do are sitting/sleeping on it, braiding, running it through ring slings. Oh, and using it will help too.
i rubbed my new wrap around a chair leg and sat on it, washed it and chain knotted it. linens are notoriously hard to break in ive heard
i have my jim back from SIL :leap: i used it at the expo we went to on the weekend (only allowed to use it for DS's sleep other than that he had to be in the pram so he could "see") and i only saw one other wrap (also a jim) and other than that i only saw ergos and danglers...
I'm mastering the slip knot, but the linen itself is lovely and cool. It certainly does need softening up though, so I'll put some of your suggestions into practice. So many choices now! DP loves the stash, he's taken to telling ppl how many I have. ;)
you can cross the wompat straps coz they have buckles i didnt try to wear it though but it does cross over lol
I think the 100% linen can take a while. I'm too afraid to buy one. i like linen blends though.
Maybe this one needs some holidaying interstate to help break it in. ;) Honestly, it isn't too bad even now. Can't wait until it's worn in! I'm sitting on it as we speak.
I am completely shocked at how many wraps I could easily keep on buying. Diff sizes, colours, fabric, blends, is there no regard for my bank account???
Jen - Glad your DP is loving your stash. I just get eye rolls and sighs here. But he's always buying cars so can't really say anything.
After mastering the ruck last week, I've had absolutely no luck with back carries this week. DD keeps straigtening her legs and I can't keep a good seat. Might have to get myself along to a meet at some point. AngelPants, are you going to the one on Monday?
I'm loving my ring slings though. Yesterday I had to take my grandmother to do her grocery shopping. She suggested we get a trolley with the baby seat on it and I said no need, I'll just pop her in the sling. Then when we had lunch at her local pub she said there was a lounge where she was sure it'd be okay for me to breastfeed. I just said, nope I can do that in the sling too. So I did. I got lots of smiles and comments on my gorgeous baby and a few admiring comments on the sling too. It was so much easier to not have to worry about a pram considering we had a trolley and my grandmother's walker to deal with.

I just got the Vatanai Ravenna I'd wanted for months. it's lovely. Highly recommend the Vatanais for newbie wrappers. They're hard to find at times, but if you see one snap it up.
TC - have you tried a double hammock on the back? That way there's a bit less onus on getting the seat perfect to start with. I do like the double hammock, but for a quick back carry with my new shortie (size 2), I'm just doing a basic ruck. The double hammock is more supportive, but you need a slightly longer wrap. I can manage it with a size 4, but only just. I'll use my 6s when she's bigger. I agree with you on the ring slings too. I've also mastered the slip knot (yay me!) to do a rebozo hip carry (comes out much like a ring sling style carry, heart to heart) with my shortie. The advantage being if I wanted to I could use it for other carries if need be.
TC- nope, i have a dr app at 10am :( i havent made it to one for ages (or so it feels anyway!) im pretty sure skye and cheng will be there tho, they are serious wrap gurus. thats so great that the sling worked so well!
jennifer- ah you have found only downfall to wrapping, the bank account issues!!
AP - Bugger. I was hoping to have a familiar face. Might leave DD1 in daycare (it's her usual day anyway) and just take DD2. I need to bite the bullet and get out there and meet some other mums.
Jen - Thanks for that. I've been avoiding trying a DH as it seems intimidating from comments I've read, but it actually wasn't too bad, I don't think. DD2 was getting pretty grumpy so might practice more tomorrow. I can never get the rails tight enough in a rebozo hip carry.
TC, I think the trick to the DH - for me anyway - was finding the right wrap. I've had no end of trouble with some, then found Nebbia, Black Linen Geckos, Zara and now my Ravenna - all easy peasy to tie the DH in.
I reckon something thin and slidey - but not too slippy - is best.

I've used my slings for all my kids, but thanks to some BB friends, have quickly spawned an obsession for all types of different carriers. My stash is growing steadily, but I am trying to keep it under control.
I wear my 2yr old DS, and my almost 6mth old bub. My slings are getting a bit neglected in favor of my Boba, Babyhawk and my vatanai (i also have some sleepy wraps which havent been used since i discovered wovens)I just paid for a new (secondhand) wrap today, a storch Leo (red) and am so excited, I cann't wait to play with it, and my DH just keeps rolling his eyes at me.
I have just seen that finely woven has some custom spots for woven wraps, I would be so tempted if I could even think of a design and some colours; but luckily I seem to be pretty unimaginative when it comes to design, because I shouldn't be spending anymore money on carriers.
The lack of imagination on the custom thing is better for my bank balance too, misty!
I found a database of all kinds of woven wraps and oh dear, there are some beautiful wraps that so need to come up secondhand somewhere! I tore myself away reluctantly.
Still breaking in my Oscha, but loving the shortness.
Can't wait to get my butterflies and my gorgeous Jim in the mail next week!

The Uppymummas do look a bit special Misty. :) I'm actually feeling quite content with my stash just now. The new petrol hemp indio are gorgeous, but I don't want one. The uppymammas, likewise (the price helps). Lavanda looks lovely, but I don't love wrapping with it (and, again, $$). I don't think I can quite say I"m stashified just now, but not bursting to buy anything.

TC - try a Jordan's back carry. It's pretty good for a leg straightener. Zaras are awesome for DH. My 7 was a smidge too long, my Vat 5 a bit better, although kind of diggy.

I always stalk this thread, so I thought I'd better post something lol. I've always worn ds, started off with a bjorn cos it was recommended to me by my bff. Quickly found I didn't like it (although bub loved it - it was a guaranteed way to get him to sleep when we were out) and bought a very pretty Bubba Moe. Have been happy with that until recently as I feel he sits too low when I carry him on my hip, still easy for a quick run into the shop and still very pretty. Have also been using a sleepy wrap but he's verging on too heavy for that I think, I used it for the first time in a week or so yesterday and was shocked at how heavy he was feeling in it! Bought my first woven a few weeks ago, a colourful Amazonas, and I really love it. Have been wearing ds almost everyday in it (except for yesterday as it was drying, hence the sleepy wrap) and he seems to really like it too. I've been playing with different back wraps, have done a ruck, a TT ruck, a DH and one I found on TBW that has been dubbed 'christina's back carry'. My favourite so far is the Christina.
I'm in desperate lust of a nice ring sling. I pm'd someone on the fb page about one today, but forgot to comment on the pic as well. Seems she missed my pm and it sold to someone else during the day. I'm a bit devo :(
One thing I wanted to ask, whenever I have bub on my back while wrapping him he cries and cries. He's happy as parry once I'm done and will stay back there for aaages, he just seems to hate being wrapped. I started wrapping in front of a mirror so he could see himself, that worked once and then he was back to crying. Is there anything else I can do? I feel bad pursuing with the wrapping but know that if I don't he'll be grumpy all arvo anyway (wonder week). Any suggestions?

Right now I'm in love with Ravenna. DD even signed 'pink' today to ask for it. seems to have taken over as the latest favourite after 'geck-gecks' Before that was the geckos, and before that Nebbia, and before that Starry Night Islay. I also loooove Starry Night Eventide, but more so to look at than to wrap with. Epacris is currently beating it into shape for me :)
A structured carrier is handy for the quick in and out trips. I don't want to wrap in the car park if we're only at the shops for a short time. it's a bit of a nuisance.
sepata, my DD usually cries when i wrap too (even when she's requested the wrapping!). And she's happy when I'm done. She think she doesn't like it when I lean forward and there's weight on her tummy :dunno: I just try to do it quickly and that's getting easier with practice.
TC - ill be there on Monday! I'm hoping to get some more help with the wrapping thing as I want to invest in a woven. Just choosing one is really hard.
I also want to get a pretty RS as I only have a white breeze ATM and want something a bit stylish. What to get though???
DS is pretty happy to sleep in his cot so I'm not wearing him much at home. Only walks too and from school and at the shops. I think I need more reasons to wear him :)
Hmmmm, I have my eye on getting a maya ring sling. Not sure what colour though, it'll mostly be for at home or short trips into the shops when I don't want to use either the ergo or my beco. MonkeyBoy loves the beco, and is having a good old go at the new suck pads I got :)

MadB - Thanks for the tip. I was using cherry blossom and that seemed to work well. I just need to work out how to deal with my leg straightener.
sepata - DD2 cries while I'm wrapping too. Not good while I'm still learning but if I can get it right she settles pretty quickly. I don't think she likes being on her tummy while I'm leaning forward. She also complains while I'm adjusting the ring sling but always sleeps in it.
ryatha - Awesome I'll see you on Monday then. I love my sakura bloom linen rs. They're a bit exxy but oh so lovely.
I also have a jim salvia WC and have just had my shorty girasol downunder converted by Hipababy. Should arrive Monday or Tuesday - can't wait.
My car insurance is due next month so I have to start exercising some restraint. I've spent way too much this week. I'm even considering selling my BB HB as it's just not getting any use atm.

I wore DD in my black and white Didymos to a client's office today. Got lots of comments! Black and white seemed corporate. Put her in the pram for the first time while she was awake. I was in there for four hours and when she needed to sleep I popped her on my back (the double hammock seemed the most snuggly). Got everything done I needed and she didn't disturb anyone. It's impossible to settle a baby and type or hold a conversation without babywearing here!

Got my butterflies today and I love it! It's so soft and pretty! DD2 slept on my back for about two hours in it, so she clearly approves too.
I just love some of the comments/looks you get when out shopping with a baby on your back in a carrier - I had MonkeyBoy in the Beco while we did the grocery shopping today, and the comments ran from "oh you've got a baby on your back, didn't see him there" to "wow he looks so comfy in there, wish I'd had one of those with mine" and a lot of little old ladies being fascinated as he blew raspberries at them (yes, I did have a nice puddle of spit on the back of my neck).
The only thing is I need to work on getting him off without feeling completely unco and like I'm going to drop him. Getting him on is getting easier, even if he doesn't help much by leaning the opposite direction just at the wrong time...
ooooh, Jen, you are going to love Jim when he arrives! He is a dresser-upper.
So, Babywearers... do I even need to consider a double pram for number 2? I kind of think I'll be likely to wear one and push the other if I use a pram at all. Any opinions?
I don't know, but I'm planning on sticking with my single pram and wearing the other one when #2 arrives. We've even got 2 carriers so I can carry one and DH can wear the other one if we're going places that have lots of stairs or aren't particularly pram-friendly :)
I bought a second seat for my pram but DD2 is almost 3 months old and I have yet to use it.
