Does anyone else get stupid comments from people?

I carry DS in the Sleepy Wrap. Or DD in the RS (back carry). DS (6w) isn't a big fan of the RS yet, he prefers the wrap and so do I at the moment..

I've given in to public demand and bought a $75 double stroller. It's fine, but I still plan to wear DS for a long time.

    "You can't carry him forever!"
"That's cute, but it's not practical"
    "Don't your shoulders get sore?"
    "It doesn't look very comfortable
"Aww 'DD', you look scared back there!" (when she was actually cuddled against my back, quite happy.

Only one person compliments me on wearing DS. She had never seen someone babywearing before (Small country town) and was blown away by how natural it looks. She says that more people should do it, it's how babies were designed, to be close to mum. She's got an older child, so I never expected comments like that.

I get sick of people slagging off baby wearing. I really enjoy it, but feel like I have to defend myself everyday.

No, I only ever get "oh she looks so comfortable."

Am I the only person who only gets positive comments for baby wearing and breast feeding? Never had a bad comment from anyone.

That' so annoying Charlotte. People get confused by what they don't understand.

I must have gotten lucky as we seem to get mostly positive comments, though some family members ask me constantly why she isn't in the pram. If they could see her yelling her head off, maybe they'd stop!

The only negative comment I've had was my grandmother calling DD2 a "poor third world baby" when I wrapped her on my back. Other people I've come across have commented on how happy she is and what a beautiful smile she has. A few ask me how comfortable I find it.

Give it time. Your babies will show people how great it is. My grandmother also used to tell me I was spoiling DD1, but now is proud of how happy and independent she is. And I don't hear the word spoiling anymore either.

I've never gotten any negative comments. It seems the old ducks are much more appreciative of the benefits of babywearing!

If they've young children, they'll be eating their words in time when they see how much easier it is to get around with more than one if you wear.

Only had one negative comment from a clearly ignorant woman questioning whether DD2 was comfy in the RS, but she quickly corrected herself (not sure if it was my astonished look or realisation).

Loads and loads of positive comments. Wrapping DD2 on my back is quite the show stopper in food courts! Lol

I'm also lucky enough to only have had positive bfing comments. Actually, I haven't really had comments at all this time around. Maybe bfing has just become ordinary around here. I can only hope!

No negative comments here thankfully. Since that news article about baby wearing in a Bjorn type carrier I've had loads of questions about my wraps and MT. It's awesome being able to share great carriers and the benefits with people.

I'd like to be able to carry DS on my back one day. Can I do it with my sleep wrap, or do I need to purchase something else?

I've worn dd quite a few times to the footy and people love it - I've had so many positive comments and lots of them from older men who are generally fascinated by it but who think it's a great idea.

I hardly ever get negative comments - mainly just from one particular grumpy checkout lady who keeps saying my boy should be riding in the trolley instead. Though she doesn't comment any more since the last time I saw her and and Alex was fast asleep on my back. My family are mostly fascinated but positive as they've seen how much he loves being carried and how much easier it is to do things without a pram.

ETA - no Charlotte, can't do back carries with a sleepy wrap as they're stretchy and baby can wriggle/lean their way out. You'd need a woven wrap or something like a mei tai or soft structured carrier (ergo, manduca etc) to try a back carry.

    hi!
I need some expert opinions!! I'm thinking of buying a rose silk pfau.. its size 2. My only woven is the Jade (you sold me Jen), and its a 6, and I love it, but its too long and thick to do a back ruck (and im too unco and slow to do a DH), so Im wanting something shorter to do a back ruck. I'm a size 10-12, would a 2 be too short?? also in terms of the silk part... how much of a difference will it be compared to all cotton? I need to know what questions to ask etc cause i really don't know enough about wovens.. and while i do go to sling meets, ive never been able to see a silk one in person. help!!

I've not owned a silk before, but they're apparently lush and soft! Great for a little baby. I think they might need slightly more care, than a 100% cotton. Though it probably also depends on the weave. The RSP looks lovely!

A 2 might be just long enough for you to R-TIF (Ruck, tied in front), but more likely you'd need to RUB (Ruck, tied under bum). A shorter wrap for rucking is a great idea, at any rate.

I have a 6 rose silk pfau that I'm loving with my squish. Gorgeous colour and soft and smooth right out of the box. I'm new to wrapping so have never rucked but I've got the impression that many people prefer something grippier and more supportive for rucks? It probably depends how heavy your wearee is too.

A lady said this to me on Saturday in Kmart, I had DS (almost 3.5 and a tiny 14kg) in the ergo on my back, and DD in the pram. I just smiled sweetly!!
He's so light its extremely comfy, he loves it (who doesn't love a piggy back ride), and its better than chasing a 3yo around a department store

Anyway, just popping in/joining this thread, I was never much of a baby wearer when DS was little, he just wasn't interested, and then was in a brace for hip dysplasia so it never quite worked out for us. DD is 4 weeks and I've only had her in the ergo a couple of times (when I've taken DS to the park etc) and she loves it, so do I, so so handy to have free hands to swing the toddler in the swings etc. I've decided I am not paying for a double pram, DS barely uses it now anyway, so I invested in the ergo instead as I can use it for both kids. Best money spent! Loving it! We are going to the Royal Show in a few weeks and it will be brilliant for a day out like that especially. I have the ergo performance, so DH can use it too

TT - I have two different silk blends and the Didy is thin and lovely to wrap with, whereas the Natibaby is cushier and feels more supportive.

If you want to tie in front go for a 3 or 4. I have both and depending on the length of the tapers they'll tie easily in front with not too much wrap hanging.

Personally, I prefer a 4 because I can do a few more carries with it (can DH at a pinch) and there's not nearly as much material. I still go a 6 for a long period though.

Because it was so warm and sunny today DD2 and I went for a bushwalk with my butterflies. Feels like springtime!
