Finally, i was able to load the pic! How long do you reckon i will need to wrap like this? i am about a size 14 atm.
i was thinking stretchy, but am leaning towards woven again.

I'm about a size 20 and could *just* tie off doing the second pass around the belly in a size. I reckon a woven would offer a lot more support, just as it would with a bub.
You'd probably need quite a long one for that. 6 maybe?
how long in metres is a 6?
4.2m? I can check mine, but will depend on the tapers a bit.
You could use a peice of string or ribbon around yourself in that way to get an idea how much length you need?
I agree a woven is the way to go for belly support.
And id advise against making a stretchy wrap by sewing two peices of fabric together. That would create a weak spot in the wrap and while a stretchy isnt usually used for heavy babies it wouldn't be as safe. Id look at getting a second hand sleepy wrap for $40 ish if you wanted a stretchy wrap for the early days.
Im a size 16 and I used a size 4 wrap as a belly support in my twin preg. (Size 22 during that)
how is everyone handling the heat and BW? any tips for others?
I have no idea how I'd manage toddler and NB without bwing! I'm sticking to my RS and my size 2 Oscha linen while it's hot - they're just fine for both quick use and keeping cool. Looking forward to back carrying DD3 as that will make it easier to wrangle DD2.
I ordered a Baby a KTan Breeze, which arrived the other day, just in time for the heat wave. Bub has been in it every day and is currently asleep in it. It's not perfect from a support point of view, but it has a lot less fabric than a full wrap. The mesh makes it cool for bub.
I also have a linen RS which is good, although I struggle to keep a good seat with it. DS is heavy at 8kg and everything stretches, so when I tighten, the seat reduces. I've watched YouTube videos for tips but can't get it to work for long. Maybe it's the linen. It's a SnuggleBaby RS.
i'm camping at Mum's today as her house is cooler. I brought the pram so bub could sleep in the bassinet. Not happening. He'll only sleep on someone ATM.
I am a newbie to BW, but DS2 and I are both enjoying it atm. :) I have 2 stretchies, which are comfy, but waaaaay too hot. Any recommendations for something cool, easy to use for upright carries and avail second hand? Not a RS though.
JLeigh, if you're already wrapping with a stretchy, it's not hard to jump to a woven. 100% cotton is cooler than a stretchy (as is linen, but not as soft). You can try slightly smaller sizes to limit the amount of fabric you have to wear. My HAB stretchy is about the same as a size six. With a newbie I could manage most carries with a four and by the time bub was bigger, I was much more adept at back and simple carries.
I did notice Ergo are releasing a carrier with a mesh front, but since summer will be over soon enough, I'm not tempted.
There's a FB babywearing buy swap sell page for Australia that lists lots of secondhand wraps, carriers, etc. if you PM me I can friend you and add to that group.
bumping =) as I am about to begin newborn bw again =) and in summer too!!! eek. I did do a massive cull of my carriers, I now only have 2 left, my half buckle, and my 100% hemp wrap (which i love!) I can't wait to use it on newborn!!
a friend of mine makes woven wraps, and made Spock a doll carrier, she loves it, she is already insisting her doll get put on her back, so I can see her sporting it 24/7 just like i will with Quark!
