I love my ergo and started at 3 months with DD, but she's quite big for her age and had good head control. Starting to try her on my back now too... she's not so keen however.
I might buy one of thes other ones if we have another baby though

Love love love my ergo!!!! So worth it. DH loves it too. Cant wait to use it with this bub around 3mths. Dont have nb insert as ive been told by many that they didnt like them so i am just waiting til bub old enough to fit into it properly which wont be long anyway!
And I have 2 other slings (close carrier and another one) in the meantime to use for the newborn period

I got the 'suck pads' with mine too, so worth it!! We had it since DD was 7mths old and we'd wished we'd bought it when she was 3mths old!!

I love mine. It's the current fave carrier. I got it at the PBC expo, but can't remember how big a bargain it was. We stopped using the insert when DD was just a few days shy of 4 months.

I will bring it and insert to the meetup, if you want, and you can try it? Just remind me though, I have mummy mushbrain.

I have used it without an insert from 4 months with both boys (didnt like insert so didnt use ergo until 4 months for this reason.

DS1 is nearly 3 and weights about 14.5kg and I can carry on my back and be very comfortable!!

Aug last year I had DS2 in stroller and DS1 on my back and walked all the way down to the nobbies (phillip island) and back up. Also have climbed hanging rock with DS1 on my back.

love my ergo!! and to get the starp on between the shoulder blades, I loosen it to buckle then pull the strap ti tighten..I found that is much easier

We used the insert up until 3is months? by then it was pretty uncomfy for her..

With regards to those whose bubs didn't like the insert - was it the one where baby lies sort of diagonally, head near one breast, legs near opposite hip, ITMS?

Or was it the heart to heart, where they are in the traditional Ergo upright position?

Just curious - DD didn't like the old insert, DS loved the new heart to heart one...

Mine was old insert.

SIL had heart to heart and her son was not a huge fan of it, she actually went and bought a close carrier to use until was old enough to use without insert.

I love my Ergo. I have used it with two of my kids - and I hope to use it again!
We bought it when my DS was 4 months - so didn't use an insert. I used the newborn insert with DS2, and had no problems -he was happy in there.

I don't like my Ergo at all. I find it hard to get on and not as comfy but then I am rather small framed and don't find it a good fit at all. And like someone else said, I find I have to be a contortionist to get it done up.

I wont be using it for this next baby and will be looking at getting something else.

I love love love my Ergo experience! I have the older version and a newer, Organic version, and I definitely love the latter - it's even softer on the shoulders and I like how the straps stay in place better.
Having said that, I just googled those Beetlebums and if we go again I am putting in an order - DIVINE! Ergo saved my sanity (and continues to do so) and even at 19mo, I'm still using it - mainly on the back, and sometimes on the front, now that molars are starting to be felt And I can get so much done on the farm with a baby on my back!

I am also looking at getting an ergo but am tossing up between the normal and the performance. Has anyone used/heard anything about the performance?

I have the performance, it is very comfy and apparently 1/3 lighter than the normal one, and not as chunky looking. It is much comfier to wear on my back than on the front. I have used it on long walks as well as around the house for long periods of time, and love how the weight is distributed. I also a sleepywrap, a mei tai and an African sling. My favourite by far is the sleepywrap which I have used since my bub was a few weeks old, and absolutely LOVE it. Have to say the Ergo is not as comfy as the sleepywrap, but it is great for back wearing.

I got one! I got one! At the baby expo, 20% off! I already love it!! I swear I can't even feel any weight on my shoulders, my back doesn't get sore at all! So glad I got it. The only think is, I'm not very tall, and when we're home I usually put DD2 in and bounce on the fitball a bit to get her to sleep but it's sitting on my legs a bit at the bottom when I sit down. Am I going to bend/squash the hard waist strap bit and wreck it ?? Anyone had the same issue?

I loved the idea of my ergo but DD hated it we ended up with something else and have 3 different ones here that we can try on the new one when it comes x

If you are small framed or have a short body the MANDUCA is a much better carrier and it has ways to make it smaller for small babies, having said that this carrier does suit all shaoes and sizes of adults. You should try both the ergo and manduca on and see what suits your baby best. Foe people having troubles with their ergo have you got a shop you can take it to and see if they have any tips on how to use it? Ergo have released a new model for smaller framed people which shows to me that they agree that their original design does not suit all body shapes.
