ellaroo mei tei or kozy carrier mei tei?

I just brought a himmel and love it (its another mei tai one) though i love my 3 carriers for different reasons.

We have an ergo and Im hoping a BH or similar mei tai will be quicker and easier for around home. Also not so hot - the ergo with the infant insert is too hot right now! I want to feel bubs in closer to me also which the ergo with insert dosent.

Im thinking of getting the babyhawk but not keen on the designs available - not many stockists in Australia And as i want one yesterday I dont want to order from o/s and wait up to a month.

I did see one today available in Aus, 'parents of invention' it about $60 on special. Seems to be a USA brand that they sell over there at toysrus...

Why are the BH so much cheaper than the ellaroo and Kozy??

Sweetpea - the himmel looks nice! but at that price I wont be getting one since we payed that for our ergo recently.

Catbirdbaby make both a mei tai, and a SSC (soft structured carrier - ie: one with buckles) called the Pikkolo.

Out of curiosity, why do you particularly want a mei tai - what benefit do you see it having over the Ergo? Do you find the Ergo uncomfortable (often a reason to use a mei tei, they are more adjustable and often more comfortable). Or do you hope to use the MT whilst your bub is little, then use the Ergo more as a toddler carrier (which is where the Ergo excels)? If that's the case, the catbirdbaby is an excellent carrier for babies, as it has a cinch strap that allows the bottom to be cinched in, making it possible for very young babies to be carried legs out.

You mentioned that you thought a mei tai would be quicker and easier around the house - I wouldn't say that a mei tai is quicker as such, although once you get the hang of tying it is just as quick as an Ergo, but it wouldn't be quicker. You also mentioned that you would get a pouch, but didn't want a non-adjustable carrier. Have you considered a ring sling?

Re: the parents of invention carrier - judging by the way the baby is positioned (ie: supported by the crotch, which is not recommended as an ideal carrying position) it does not look comfortable for either baby or wearer. Personally I would not buy one.

There are not too many good mei tais that are consistently available as in-stocks in Aus, so be prepared to order. I would suggest buying based on what is going to work best for you rather than on immediate availability. You could try brindabella baby, they do have other things in stock to what is on their website. I think they have a couple of Mei Favourites on their ozebaby store.

brindabella baby are great...she is based her in canberra and she let me try on heaps of carriers. if you contact her she has other carriers that are not on her sight to.

I actually find that I can get my Baby hawk and himmel on fairly quickly but the ergo is quicker.

I mainly back carry and on hot days so far find the baby hawk the best but have only had the himmel for a few days. I can also feed in the bh and himmel but have not managed to in the ergo.

If I could talk dh into letting me get another carrier it would me a mei favourite.

I want a mei tai for round home, so baby is upright (ergo newborn insert doesnt allow this), and not as bulky and hot as the ergo (insert adds both bulk and heat).

Both me and dh had been orignially wanting a HAB before we even got pregnant but then we decided it would be too hot for a summer newborn and it would not be a quick option for putting on.
Im not sure why, but ringslings just dont seem appealing, but I did see a very nice one just now on the brindabella site.

If you are thinking of something cooler and more lightweight for summer, the catbirdbaby would be a good option, and I think one of the Mei Favourites on brindabella baby's Ozebaby store is a solarweave one, which is a very lightweight fabric. It offers UV protection and dries quickly (if you want to wear it at/in the pool or shower).

Could be a good option for you

Just thought I would pop in and say that there are Kozy's coming in the next few weeks and hopefully CBB Mei Tais as well.

The reason you will be seeing some carriers cheaper than others at the moment is mostly because the cheaper ones were bought when the exchange rate was good....at the moment it sucks and you can expect Australian suppliers to to be upping prices across the board on anything they import from now on..just a heads up, if you see it cheap get it now!!!

Does anyone think the BH, catbird or others would be too hot or bulky? Just thinking of what Suse suggested.

I was using a Jazz sling but moved on to an Ellaroo at Christmas. I just love it and use it for back carries and side.

I have tried the solerweive one that brindbella baby have on ther ozbaby store and that would be the one i would get if going for a fourth. it is a buckle carrier, and can be used in water to.
