I have the waist band on and the straps hanging down. Fling baby over and rest him on my back like a piggy back while I'm leaning right over so he's horizontal. Then I keep one hand on him and pull up one strap, making sure his leg comes out where it should. Pull up the other strap with a flick so the body of the ergo goes over his back and put that on. Grab his feet and wriggle him down while moving upright. Then I do up the front clip and reach back to put a hand under his bum and adjust how his sitting so he's sitting deep in the ergo and we're good to go. Does that make any sense?!
I do it more like this, with both straps down the start. But I toss my baby over my back to start I feel like I'll drop him when I try and just slide him into place from my hip. Ergo Baby Carrier Back Carry Demo - YouTube
I saw this in action last week when cling-on DS decided he didn't want to be on the floor during our music session, so I lead the session with him on my back in the Ergo - my sister helped me get him in.
One of the other mums commented afterwards that she got a little misty-eyed watching me with DS on my back as her kids are all beyond that now... but she said she used to be able to do it by herself and then proceeded to give me a demo with her 4yo!!!
Impressive. She did the cross arms over, fling up and around thing too. It was over in a flash.
