11.5 month old - Sleeping Changes

    Hi everyone,

My daughter is 11 months old and we decided from the beginning that we would rock her to sleep if she wanted us too, rather than control cry etc. The patting thing didn't work either.

Anyway, there was a time where I could put her in her cot awake and she would fall asleep - this was mostly during the day. Sometimes she would do this at night, but not always.

For the last month or more we've found that we have to lie down with her whilst she sleeps on our stomachs. We then transfer her to her cot.

I've now dropped her milk down to 3 per day but I'm finding that she's no longer sleeping well during the day. This whole week I can't think of a day where she has had more than an hours sleep during the day (ie leading up to 7/8pm!).

I'm wondering whether the drop in her milk or the fact that she is getting older has anything to do with it? Some mornings we also don't get up until after 9am! But I justify this by saying "she wouldn't sleep if she didn't want to".

    Appreciate any thoughts/ideas/reassurance etc.

Would also be interested in hearing other people's routines for the day with kids the same age.

    Thanks in advance.

How long is she awake for when you try to put her down? Does she appear tired?
We having few probs at this stage where she only wants one nap but sometimes its a long time til bedtime.

    Our routine roughly is:
Early morning breastfeed then back to sleep.
    Up anywhere between 7-7:45
    Breakfast bout 8- 8:30
    breastfeed 11ish
put down for nap bout 11:15- 11:30 ish
Lunch when she wakes from nap
arvo tea bout 3-3:30ish (breastfeed or bottle plus yoghurt)
    dinner 5:30
bedtime routine 7ish the breastfeed and bed.

In the day her nap can vary from anything from 45mins to 2 hours. Depend what mood she's in.

Pelaja, I'm wondering if it could be related to dropping the milk down. Tom is 11 months and still has more drinks of milk than that a day, and I know we didn't drop Jack down until about 15 months, but that was probably too late. If you are unsure, perhaps increase the milk again just to see what happens. If it makes no difference, then it could be just one of those age related phases. But if it helps, then you will know why and maybe you can try to drop the milk down again in another month or so.

If it is just a phase, it should pass. Jack has gone through these phases a few times in 2 1/2 years, but they never last long. We try to be creative with this bedtime routine so that if something isn't working, we adjust it. So we might read an extra story, or read the story lying down instead of sitting on the end of his bed etc. The pretend magical sleep spray on his pillow is working well atm. Good luck with it, I hope you find the answer.
