Water is a good idea. Mia has her last bottle at 6pm and if she wakes during the night, she gets water. Then she goes back to sleep. Some other ideas for waking.. what are you putting her to bed in?? could there be mozzies/bugs in the room that are annoying her? Is she having too much sleep during the day? Mia has 1 sleep only now and also goes to bed at 7. Is she on cows milk? how long has she been on it? I found the cows milk gives Mia a bit of an upset tummy when its hot. Whats her bedding like? Are her sheets 100% cotton, it will breath more in the summer making her more comfortable. Is she waking coz shes hitting the sides of the cot? mayb shes getting too big for it? Have you tried introducing a pillow to her cot?
Hj - re your question about the bottles. My MCHN told us that after 12 months they only need 3 serves of calcium a day and no more than 500 gm of dairy all up. So in theory they don't even need a bottle!! Logan has milk on cereal, yoghurt at lunch, slice of cheese, and he has a small sippy cup half full of milk after his bath before bed. He is 100 % on cows milk now too (I just stopped bfing this week).
MM - im going to keep trying with the water - we have changed her pj's to summer ones now - but she still wakes up warm - she dosent sleep under covers - and she has cotton sheets, not sure if 100% cotton tho! She only has 2 sleeps a day and they now range between 30mins - 1hr each - so do u think that is too long? could try cutting a sleep but its hell if she dosent have her naps! she isnt on full cows milk yet - just half cows and half formula! thought that it might of been an upset tummy so i put her back on formula and that hasnt changed anything! She has had a pillow since about 6mths old!
and as for getting too big for her cot - my gosh i dont want to think about that - she is growing up fast enough as it is - but u know what thats prob somthing to think about cause she moves around HEAPS in her cot!
Kylie - was it hard stopping the bottles? how did u go about doing it?
Jacobs naps are from 40mins - 2hrs, depends how he gets woken up usually I can settle him back down and he will go back to sleep.
I find with Jacob anyway, the better he sleeps during the day, the better he sleeps at night. He is feral if he doesnt have a nap!!!
DD 14 months old has 1 big afternoon sleep around 3 hours, she would sleep in the morning but with kindy etc it can't happen otherwise I have to wake her up!!! Don't try to cut her sleep, they say that sleep promotes sleep.
Keep with your regular routine, I would say go to cows milk fully as soon as you finish the can of formula and don't continue feeding her at night, otherwise you make a bigger problem for yourself, I say keep up with the water, every chance she is thristy. We put DD in our bed, it suits us as we kind of co-sleep and she is more relaxed becasue of it. we have nights where she sleeps from 8.30pm to 7.30am and others where she wakes up a couple of times, I agree the birds are a pain and they do start around that time, if bubs is in a light sleep its enough to wake her, we just chuck her in for a cuddle and all go back to sleep for a bit longer.
