14 Month old hates napppy change time.....

DD was like this but grew out of it about a month ago - oh what a difference, phew! we survived!

The only thing that worked for me was having a box of contraband - stuff that she was never normally allowed to play with or things that she had never seen before - bulldog clips, elastic bands, spoons, nappy snappies, USB stick, roll of sticky tape, plastic sandwich bag full of coloured plastic bits etc - and each change I would allow her to select something out of the box to look at, but if she mucked around during the change then I took it off her. I explained the rules and gave warnings but if she still continued, then I followed through. It worked as long as I kept the box interesting, and she was only ever allowed to play with them during nappy time so the novelty couldn't wear off.

Oh and I got very good at wiping a pooey bum while she was standing up if that helps!

I have done the same as Winter and it works every time. Much easier than trying to sit one of DD's feet and hold her other one so that she doesn't kick me We have my mother's day card, aircon remote, balloons, teaspoons, hairties, etc.

DS is the same. Got to the point where I couldn't change him on the change table for a while as it was too dangerous and too much of a screamfest so I'd catch him in the loungeroom, throw down a flat terrytoweling nappy and change him on top of that. Worked best when he was watching a Play School dvd. We're back at the change table for the moment but there have been a few cranky mummy faces. Singing nursery rhymes loudly over the top of any complaints keeps me from snapping at him.

Yep contraband! Even the Sudocrem (sample pot size though not a big tub!) for a couple of minutes- very naughty! DS likes to moisturise his tummy... And I have put a cushion down for DS' head as he's never really liked laying flat on his back. And sometimes I'm just not up to the fight and we do standing up nappy changes. Good luck!

my 10mth old must be advanced he's already been doing this to me & DH for a while now
Have been trying to think what I could give DS to distract him while changing - might have to try that "special box of things" idea. Don't know that the nappy changing, or should I say putting on, while standing is going to be an easy one for a while - we use itti bitti MCNs. Although I have become quite good at the cleaning the bum while it sticks up in the air. although we've taken to putting his pants, shoes & socks on down in the lounge room while he's sitting up/standing so he can help us.
And I hear you at the ear splitting squealing/screaming - DS does this at night when we have to change him so it's more of a grin and bear it any time overnight .

Mrs Jak I have the same with my 14 month old and have since he was able to roll at about 5 months old. It's always a struggle and i end up getting him dressed in all kinds of different angles (the worst is trying to get the press studs done up under the nappy). I have a couple of things that i bring out with a big 'OHHH LOOK WHAT I'VE GOT!!!!' which sometimes works. For us one of them is a dummy, he's never had a dummy but loves to chew on one sometimes.

Nappy change and getting dressed involves a lot of deep breaths and patience here

Just thought I would re-visit this.

We have been using those huggies nappy pants and they have made nappy canges a lot more bareable. If its only a wet nappy she doesnt have tolie down at all. If it is a number 2 nappy, she has to lie down for me to take it off which you just pull apart at the side seems and lie down for a wipe then she stands or sits again for the actual pulling up the pants.

Much better as I get the hard part done before she has lost interest in whatever I have given her to distract herself.

well we have a little bit of an issue because we use cloth nappies i pretty much have to sit on him to change him wee is ok coz i do it standing up but poos nup its horribel at the moment i have to get DH to hold him while i do it coz its pretty hard to bend down now

Nappy changes these days are horrid for us. I pin him to the floor with my feet and one foot under my thigh. He screams and hates it but what choice do we have? He's gotta have a nappy. Most times I dont even bother trying anything else as it never works. It doesn't matter what I've given him he knows he can still look at it if he's sitting up. (I always take it off him when he rolls but the message doesn't seen to be getting through.)

We'll be looking into the nappy pants tomorrow, do Aldi have an equivalent? Guess I'll find out tomorrow... Hope they're not too exxy...

It's funny this should pop up again because i was thinking of how you were going the other day Mrs Jak... I got over the constant fight and started doing all changes on the change table again. (I was doing it on the floor) It seems to be a bit easier, sometimes he can start to wiggle once he knows the nappy is done up but for the most part it hasn't been as much of a struggle. Has your little man been a bit kinder to you during change time??

Hi Myboys He has actually improved! Most of the time he's not too bad. Thank goodness, because my belly is getting bigger and doesn't appreciate being whacked with a stray foot!
He's just over 15 months now. Just started walking about 3 weeks ago and maybe it's helped with his whole attitude towards life?? Not sure?? Can't believe you are 18 weeks already!!! I reckon it goes faster when you already have 2 at home. xoxo

Just to help out - yes Aldi do have their own nappy pants and they work great. Both DD2 and DD3 wear them (DD2 just at night) and they are comfy and easy to put on and take off. The only problem is you can't redo them back up if they get ripped on the sides like some.

Yea I had a look yesterday but they're too big DS is only 10kgs and the smallest size was 14 or something. We got the huggies ones instead. (of course I managed to grab the wrong ones and ended up with too big ones anyway ) but aside from them being on the biggish side they're great. Still have to hold him down to get the old nappy off and it's a little tricky to get both legs in to pull them up lol. But much less painful than before. Yay!
