Question 16mo DS - night waking and lots of poo's! Opinions?

My 16 month old DS has been doing about 5 highly offensive poo's a day for the last 3 or so weeks. In the last 10 days he has started to wake between 9.00pm and 11.00pm, the only way to settle him is for him to have a really big drink of water and then come into bed with us.

    His diet is this:

    Breakfast - 2 x WeetBix with cow's milk
    Snack - Apple slices
Lunch - Toasted cheese sandwich and yoghurt
Snack - Homemade creamed rice with stewed apples and blueberries
Dinner - Pasta casserole, soup and buttered toast or whatever we are having (meat and veg), plus a sippy cup of milk throughout the day.

And then a 150ml bottle of cow's milk before bed.

He settles beautifully at night, and has a 2.5 hour nap after lunch. For us to get him back to sleep, he has to sleep with us. We like having him come into bed with us at 6.30am when he wakes for a cuddle, but all night sleeping is not for us. I recall reading somewhere that kids that wake at certain times of night are lacking in something, can anyone help?

I'm not too concerned....yet, but my instincts say something isn't quite right. I'm seeing my MCHN next week. Could he have an intolerance to anything? He's about 11kgs but I don't think he has put on much weight at all since his 12 month check.

Thanks for any and all suggestions!

THE 2 THINGS which pop to mind for me is:

Teething - loose poos and discomfort for teeth

    and

Worms - often up all night and discomfort and lots of poo
does he has irritation around his bottom at all?

    might be worth looking at

Thanks PP. Yes, his poo's are soft and I pretty sure he isn't teething.

Worms, hmm. Well, he is starting to get a rash on his botty but I thought it was from the constant poo'ing. Is Combantrim (sp?) an over the counter medication? Think I need to have a chat to my pharmacist. I'd go to the GP but it takes 7 weeks to get an appt where I am.

you can get a once tablet - even generic - i know AMcal stock it if you have one nearby,

But yes combantrim one you can get off the shelves - it is just a once off dose - but worth giving a follow up dose 2 weeks later in case.

You can always check at night after he is asleep - as they come outside the anus and lay eggs at night. shine a torch if he isnt too disturbed at night - or check as soon as he wakes in the morning.

Otherwise the GP may advise to put a little sticky tape over the anus at night - and when they come outside they will get stuck and you will see them.
Wont hurt to worm him in case - but take to your pharmacist about it.

worth worming yourself too if he does have them.
