    1st birthday tips???

Felix is turning 1 in a couple of weeks (can't quite believe it!)

Just wondering...does anyone have any tips to help a 1st birthday party run smoothly?

We're just having a casual get together down at the park family and friends. Probably looking at it going just for 2 hours and starting around 1:30-2:00pm-ish.

But just wondered if anyone has any great hints on what to do (or not to do)...

    Cheers!

    Be organised!!!

I really wanted to enjoy Oscar's birthday party today so I made sure I was all organised for when guests arrived so I just had a few things to do throughout the day. I really don't have any other advice for you but to make sure you enjoy the day!!

if posible ask a few friends to take some photos thru out the day that way u will have some photos with u in them, whatever food that can be prepared ie sandwiches, cheese cubes, vegies sticks etc cut all up night b4 and have ready in containers. if someone offers to help say yes that would be great, even if its setting up food etc therefore leaving u more time to chat to friends and spend time with Felix. i think huggies site or baby centre have some tips 2. enjoy the day as it goes too quickly. have a wet weather plan just in case. when u open pressie write what gift was given on back of cards incase u need them 4 reference later 4 thank u's or to tell felix what he got on his 1st birthday.
if at the park, a little 1st aid kit ie some bandaids can come in handy, suncream for a hot day....
HTH and felix that has lots of fun

We recently had Autumn's 1st birthday in a park and I'm really glad we did. Other than gathering everyone for the candle blowing/song, I didn't organise anything else (eg. games for older kids etc.) and didn't need to as everyone was so happy just playing. We had people bring a chair or blanket though. Kids food is easy, adult-wise I asked a few people to bring a hot water thermos and just provided tea/coffee/sugar/milk and this worked well too. If you keep it super simple, you'll have more time to enjoy it yourself. The writing down of presents on the cards is an excellent idea if you plan to open them at the park. And the best thing is going home to a clean, quiet house for nap time!

We had our DS's 1st birthday party in a park and just took some plastic seats & umbrellas, it worked really well! We also made sure we had some rubber backed mats for the little kids to sit/lay on and had 'kid friendly' food. Friends took photos and video footage for us and it was the perfect day!! We enjoyed every minute of it and so did DS!!!

Don't worry about games but if you've got older kids at the party then it's a good idea to be near some playground equipment.

    dont invite too many people
time it in between nap times
have back up plan if its raining
    quick easily prepared foods
