2 yr old starting to suck her thumb help!

Miss DD who is 2.3years i have noticed every now and then has her thumb in her mouth.
It is only for about 1-2 mins.

    She NEVER sucked her thumb.

But DS does (11 months)... so i assume she is mimicing him

omg i dont want her to start.

First time i said - yukky, we dont suck our thumbs, only babies do. She thought it was funny and kept doing it.

So now i have just ignored that she is even doing it

has this happened to anyone else?

DD1 sucked hers from 10 weeks til 2.2 yrs when we decided to stop her, we taped her thumb using sports tape, this ment it tasted funny and wasnt comfortable to suck she also couldnt undo the tape ,it worked!!

There is a nail polish from the chemist that tastes really bitter. Trust me, suck once and NEVER again. It just tastes vile! It is specifically to stop sucking fingers.

I was a thumb sucker... and those nail polish things, if you want to suck your thumb or bite your nails enough, its doesnt work.
    TRUST ME!!!!
Thumb sucking in this incidence is most likely copying.
I would ignore it. The more fuss you make the more she is likely to do it.
Do you try and stop DS? if not i wouldnt try and stop her, she will see that you allow him to do it.
In all honesty, is there a big problem with being a thumb sucker at her age? I think that it is cute and would much prefer to see a child thumb sucking than sucking on a dummy.
I know the teeth thing is often mentioned, but i have perfect teeth, never had a brace or a plate and sucked my thumb - a lot as a toddler and then just at night until about 5 or so.
Mum and Dad never made a fuss, i didnt have any other 'comfort' item, i just grow out of it, much the same as child grow out of blankies, toys, hair twirling or dummies for comfort.

    Hope this helps

Sounds like a good plan PP. I wouldn't let it get too bad, or too much of a habit though before doing something. The more fixed the habit is, the harder it is to break. It doesn't even sound as if it's a habit yet, lets hope it stays that way!!!!
