3 things you bought but didn't really need for baby

The baby bath. Kitchen sink worked fine thanks, and wasn't such a pain in the butt to fill/empty.
This little baby sunshade/tent thing someone gave me got used once, then ditched because DD hated it.
And dummies! I tried to give DD one on about day 3 or 4 out of hospital, she gave me a rather affronted look and spat it out.

Bath - to much hassle to fill and empty. If I was going to put it on the floor, it was just as easy to use the proper bath. Laundry tub was much easier.
Monitor - anxiety causing machine - plus no much need when she was with me 24/7
Cot - not even going to bother this time. We sold our very near new cot when DS was 11 months old.

I didn't spend money on many of those things except maybe $15 on the bath seat which was never used! Thankfully we didn't buy the cot either as DS has slept in maybe a half a dozen times. Even as I type he is asleep on a double bed mattress on the floor at 10 months old, before that we co-slept. I also didn't buy a sling but have 3 or 4 of them that were given to me. Never used DS hated them. As for baths the laundry tub is 'perfect' and high so great for our backs as is our massage table which now doubles up as the change table and some times that table even triples up as an ironing table when once in a blue moon I iron the big basket full of clothes that sits under the table I'm surprised the wraps aren't more popular? I used stacks of them and ds hated being wrapped so mine were used in bed and in his little cocoon thingo and on the floor and as a protective cover on the change table and as a little blanket to put down on the carpet if we went visiting someone, they were great to throw in the bag as they were so light and rolled up so small, they were also fantastic to use over my arm when feeding as it was summer and if I didn't have something in between ds's head and my arm it was super sweaty so the wraps were light, cool and kept everything more comfortable. Even now I have a few in the car and they are great for blocking out sun.

1. the cot. argh. DS slept in it for maybe 2 months. and the idea of them turning into a toddler bed seemed a good one, little did i know he'd be much happier on a mattress then bed, where someone could sleep next to him!
2. breast pump. i only got a manual one so not very technical but just not for me. although i should thank it because it made me perservere with feeding rather than expressing
3. blankets/wraps - ours were all given to us 2nd hand by friends which was lucky because DS just never liked being wrapped (could be that i am the world's WORST wrapper!)...he was into a grobag by the time he was 12 weeks. proper blankets were ok, just more the bunny rug things & wraps.

1. The nappy wrapper - such a waste of money and a pain to use and empty
2. Breast feeding pillow - uncomfortable and in the way
3. Rocker - ended up buying a FP swing and DS loved that.

We've loved the cot, it was our number one buy! used to the baby bath too!

Bottles / Sterilising Equipment - got some in case, but neither of my kids liked bottles, so they were a waste
Breast Pump - it was usefull enough (pumped when too full, or to try and go out, or to make baby food)
Baby Bath Seat - used a lot with my son who refused to SIT in the tub, it kept him from jumping around in there
Baby Clothes - didn't need many, sleepers were soi much easir for all those frequent diaper changes
Blankets / Wraps - everyone gave us one and we had waaaaaaay too many
Sling - could not live without for DS, never used for DD
Baby Monitor - hugest wate of money ever, never used it for either kids
Baby Bath - found it useful fir the first few weeks with both kids then preferred just to lie them down in the big tub with a small amount of water
Cot - I don't know what a cot is *blush* We used a bassinet with both kids, playpen for both kids (for travelling) and a crib only for a short time with DS (and not at all with DD)
Bouncer/Rocker - could not live without for DS, used a bit with DD

I think what we call a cot is the same as you'd call a crib - at least that's what I gather from trawling o/seas shopping sites for cheaper baby stuff

Definitely the bassinet, ambynest and rocking cradle....at one point we had all three in our room in a desperate attempt to get him to sleep in something! A pitiful, sleep deprived version of musical beds!! Should have just used the toddler rail on our bed from day 1!
Bottles and sterilising equipment and breast pump - the time I wasted pumping when I should have just been putting him on the boob! Luckily I gave up pumping after a few weeks once the tongue tie and latch was sorted out.
Pram - the sling was just so much easier and he loved it but hated the pram
Luckily all of our other useless purchases like the bouncer, rocker, and vibrating rocker were all secondhand cheapies so not much to regret.

If I had my time again...I would only buy a sling, a toddler rail for our bed, cloth nappies, a baby bath and babygros

some of the things on that list we didn't buy - the baby monitor, the bath seat, the sling...

but the baby bath - we used it maybe three times, then decided it was so much nicer to get in there with him, and wash and cuddle and play. and much easier on our backs then carrying water back and forth!!

wraps - we have wraps which haven't even been used ... he was wrapped up most of the time when small, but we bought a selection of wraps, and then we just kept on being given more! we've used some as blankets in the pram or in the car, but there's still so many which haven't been used ...

and the sterilising equipment - as we generally were using EBM, sterilising was unnecesary. I used a microwave steriliser as a drying rack for my pumping equipment at work, and that was the only use it ever got ...

oh and I spent too much time crocheting blankets and was given so many....barely used them!

id have to say a change table we never used it. I needed a baby bath as we only have a shower and even now I put my girls in it as a treat

Baby monitor - it's still sealed and unopened in its pack
Growbag Egg thermometer - used it a bit with DS but soon realised its impossible to cool a room to the recommended 16 - 18 degrees in Queensland in summer

I'm actually hoping to sell these things on ebay (hehe)
