    Red rash under chin!

    Hi there,

My baby girl is 4 months old and I just noticed a red rash between the crease of her head and neck. It is a bit weepy and smelly. Is this caused by not drying properly after a bath? What could I use to treat it?

    Thanks for any advice!

Yep, my DD gets it too. It is from not drying properly or from her vomiting or sweating and it getting in the folds of skin. I always make sure I wash and dry under there really well- there have been many tears shed over drying under there properly! I also put on a barrier cream after a bath at night and then clean it off in the day time when I put on some cornflour powder. I clean under there maybe 2-3 times a day as well as after a bath.

I second what Kellie said. Cornflour powder is great for it. I usually put my thumb under his chin and push away from myself so that his head goes back a bit and I can get the towel there to dry properly. I would however, just get either doc or chemist to check it out cos you may need some antifungal type of cream to clear it. Oskar had a rash on his chin just this week when he was sick and it was a fungal type and I was told to get Daktagold and it's cleared it up so fast...not cheap but worked and only need once a day.

Having the same thing with little DD atm, had it all with DD#1 as well But have stumbled across the Bepanthen Ointment (not cream) and it has worked a treat!! I somehow create sweaty babies as DD has heat rash in every single fold, as well as the weepyness and smellyness in one or two areas so I just endeavour to keep between the 'layers' (hehe) clean and dry and after applying the ointment, the redness clears up super fast. HTH!

Yes I agree. Keep it dry, keep it clean.
