7 month old suddenly hard to resettle

My DS is generally quite a well-settled, content little bub. He still wakes at night - usually 1-2 times. He is really good though, just has his feed and goes back down without any fuss - until now . Recently he's started waking more like 3 times a night, and is really hard to resettle. He's fine while he's feeding (usually falls asleep on me), but then when I move him he wakes and gets upset. Then I rock him back to sleep, but when I go to put him back down he wakes and gets upset again. Last night was shocking - he woke at 2.30am and didn't properly resettle until 5.15am . He's not crying that much, just when he realises he's being put back down in his cot.

I guess what I'm trying to work out is why he's suddenly so hard to resettle, and if it's just something that will pass . Any ideas? Anyone else experience this around this age?

Yes! We are going through this at the moment too. DS wnt from sleeping a good 6 or 7 hour block to waking every three hours for a bottle. I think it might have been hunger and thirst, because he's been drinking less during the day. But I've also wondered if it might be a developmental thing, so very interesting that your bub is waking more as well.

Because DS has been happy to take his bottle during the night, we're just feeding him and he goes back to sleep (but he's in bed with us).

Sorry I can't really offer any helpful advice, but perhaps it's a common thing at this age and hence one of those things that will just pass?

Best of luck with getting back to a better sleeping pattern soon.

Hi steria, we have had nights like this, usually when a cold is coming on or teething.

I tend to take DD into bed with me if she won't go into her cot after 2 attempts. Don't stress about bad habits, because DD has always gone back to her old routine once the cold is passed/teeth have cut through.

Devon: Good to know I'm not the only one. It's doing my head in - I am so tired!!!

Anna: I suppose it could be teething, but it's hard to say, cause his two first teeth came through without any fuss whatsoever.

All the night waking certainly makes for a tired cranky little boy, and an even tireder and crankier mummy!

6-7 months is often a difficult time. I'm not sure why.
In my DS' case I think it was largely due to a spike in separation anxiety.
It will pass. Probably best to just do whatever makes it easier on you all till he's settling better again

I've just been through a week of this and DS is 7 months next week. It was absolutely doing my head in but last night we had a solid 7pm to 7am with one wake at 3am. For us is definetly teething and also i feel like he's got to an age where he's more alert and separation anxiety is big LOL. It will pass and just knowing that there's other people out there going through the exact same thing at their age makes you realise it's not you, it's your baby it's just part of it.
Good luck and passing on the good vibes of sleep
