It is incredibly frustrating, I know!

For us, the food refusal has always ended with the appearance of a tooth, and both before and after he will end up eating more than normal so it's often really hard to keep up with how much he is likely to eat!

If he was refusing food from a spoon, we would try to give him something that he could eat himself that is still fairly soft. Often bread rather than toast as it is softer. At times he was refused to feed himself and insists on mush from a spoon... If he rejects both we figure he really doesn't want to eat and we will try to make sure he has an extra bottle or something.

I hope it ends soon, I really do know how stressful it can be.
