9 Months Old - Still on Puree

The twins have just turned 9 months old, and both still only want pureed food. I have tried for the last week or so to give them slightly chunkier food, but both turned their noses up at it and refused it. I gave them pureed food for their tea, and I couldn't get it down them fast enough.

They don't have any teeth through yet, but neither did my older 2 when they were that age and I had no trouble getting them onto more solid food.

Will it matter if they only have pureed food for a while yet? I really have no idea! Any advice gratefully received!

Ashleigh doesn't like anything too chunky. I still puree her meat but vegies I just mash up really well so they're thick but don't really require chewing.
I do practice her once a day on chunkier type finger foods just to try to get her used to chewing but she isn't really impressed at all and will chew a little then spit it out.
I just presume (and hope) that eventually in her own time she will get used to it.
How thick are the purees? Maybe try mashing really well so the food is thick but without much lumps.

My theory is as long as they eat something that is the main thing, in time they will adapt to eating chunkier foods, try and wean them into it! Goodluck

    Hi Karla,

I am a twins mummy too. I used to give the boys mashed veges and after that I would cook up a couple of chops and cut the meat off it and let them chew on the bone. And just worked my way up from there as they got teeth I gave them more different foods to try. I also found I had one that would eat anything I put in front of him and the other was more pickie.

My DS (11 months) is still having pureed meat & veg for dinner. He has a lot of finger food too and then some of whatever we are having. My child nurse said as long as they can chew on some foods, ie finger foods, toast etc. that is fine.

They will be eating lumps before you know it!!

I wouldn't worry about it too much, they'll do it in their own time.

Annika refused to move on to thicker solids, so I started giving her foods she could hold and gum herself - mango, avacado, banana - all the good stuff. She has since became a champion eater, she can't gobble it down fast enough lol!

My nine month old is still eating puree as well. Tried him on something a bit lumpier a few days ago and he gagged and carried on like I was trying poison him

My DD was eating pieces of toast, banana etc by his age and much lumpier food - but I started her on solids earlier so she had more time to practice I guess.

I give DS lots of fruits in his mesh feeder and he's fine eating with that.
