I do lots of similar things with N - he also does play alone a bit with me in the room or in the kitchen or whatever - i dont think this is a bad thing???
when ia m cooking i give hima spoon and a bowl and he 'stirs' - or he sits in his highchair having a snack and i do a 'cooking show' for him - which he loves. i also havea cupboard with plastics in it which he unpacks while i am cooking...
N LOVES music - so we often have music on (kids music or my music) and we sing and dance. i have also taught him some songs which he now does actions too - twinkle twinkle, happy and you know it and he is learning incy wincy spider.. he bops along to any music.
not so into tv but sometimes i tape playsvhool and we watch it together and sing along to the songs
he loves the swings at the park - i go most days when i pick him up from daycare if it is sunny
also he still jusy loves chg in scene - playing with toys in diff rooms, or outside
and his latest things he loves to do - go all around the house turning lights on and off, openingand shutting doors - house doors and also all the cupboards, pretend phone conversations...
Jordie, this is a great age to start introducing 'messy play':
sandpit or even a basin of rice with cups and spades and buckets
water, with or without detergent and food colouring
paint - finger painting or those large chunky round textas - you can make up non toxic paint using cornflour, water and food colouring
BUBBLES (she probably won't blow yet but will be fascinated by them)
playdough (homemade so it doesn't matter if they eat it ).
The other thing is try to think about different ways to play with the toys she has, ie nesting the cups instead of stacking them. Missy E is fascinated by putting things 'in' at the moment - pegs in the hole, shapes in the shape-o, etc. Her other complete fascination involves stepping in and out of things, a box with low sides will keep her busy for ages.
