Unhappy Ahhh crap. This isn't good - is it?

DS has always been a skinny kid as food still continues to be "fun" even thhough he's not 1 - he's nearly 2.5.

I noticed in the shower tonight that he looked skinny - and then put his nappy on him - the front snaps met each other - I though that was weird (btw, it was a bundles of buns nappy - really trim, like an itti) plus even though they were meeting - the front was a bit gapey.

We weighed him. He's lost a kilo. Plus he's grown taller - he must be at least a metre tall now (difficult to get an accurate measurement) and now weighs 13.5kg.

That's bad isn't it? He's lost it in about a month......

T is only 13 kgs at just over 2.5. It's on the light side for that age, but perfectly ok. I would probably be a bit worried about a weight loss, although you do need to take into account different scales, clothing, whether he's just eaten or done a poo etc. Has he been sick at all? Probably it's fine, but for peace of mind a GP visit probably wouldn't hurt.

Try not to worry in the meantime hun

He could have had a growth spurt. Kids tend to put on weight then grow taller and get thinner all of the sudden.

I agree with Tinkerbell, he may also be a small kid. I remember teaching a little girl in kindy (aged 5) who weighed 12 kg!! In the same class there was another girl who weighed 40kg!!

Oh a friend is studying nutrtion something or other and she said kids will never starve if they are feed iykwim, like unkless you have them locked away and are deliberatly not feeding them they will starve but if they are just fussy they will eat when hungry!

But get him the once over at the doctor to ease your mind xxx

I think its more the fact that he lost a kilo in such a small amount of time - we are just guessing that its been a month since we last weighed him. He hasn't been sick or anything (not dramatically sick) and we haven't noticed that he wasn't eating as much until this last week when he has really really gone off food.

I was a skinny kid, I remember mum saying the doctor used to be on her back to get me eating more - unfortuntately I am making up for it now
Go to the doctor if you need reassurance, but I am sure it will all be fine.
