Quick question, does anyone know how young a new born can be to fly, it would just be a domestic Brissy to Melbourne flight. Jetstar has a sale and I wanted to take our little one down as early as I can so the great grandparents can meet Peanut, would be great to get the super cheap fares they have out at the moment! 6 weeks would prob be a better time to plan it though in terms of ensuring YOU are up to it etc etc... but i think if you HAVE to go somewhere you can go that early. the airlines would have more info if you wanted to ask them? 6 weeks is DEF ok though...
I flew with my DS when he was 10 days old for my Grandad's wedding. I found it worked really well ... he fed as we took off and as we landed so that his ears didn't get blocked.
If your baby is not born yet at the time you are booking the flight, you will have to contact the airline as they don't accept future dates as the baby's birthday over the internet. Someone on the phone can override that in the system.
If you are flying within a couple of weeks of giving birth you are at a particularly high risk of deep vein thrombosis so you need to make sure that you drink plenty of water, move around a bit and just check with your doctor that you shouldn't be wearing compression stockings or something.
we flew at 5 weeks with ds, he was fine slept the whole way. but i did feed him on take off and landing like Townsvillegirl said.
i think its actually the best time to travel with bubs - as they sleep so much at that age!

You can fly with a baby at any age.. 2-3-4 days if you need too. There are no rules and airlines cant stop you. I know from experience.
International you need to go to birth death marraige get birth certificate and then make appointment at passport office they will issue you one within 4 hours if you have a fligth booked in the next 24hours otherwise they post it out to you and it takes 10-14 working days.
