I have seen these new aluminium bottles popping up around the shops. Are they good? What is the difference in quality between the expensive ones and cheeper versions.
we use the foogoo ones, stainless steele, they keep water cold all day, we love them, not cheap but they have certainly lasted longer than the cheaper plastic ones! o nly had to replace the straw once in DD's straw one, DD2 has teh sippy cup
I think some of the cheaper ones don't have the ability to act like a thermos and keep the drinks cold. Some are just the stainless steel drink bottle which gets extremely hot in the sun!
I figure that if you can taste the plastic then there must be enough of it IN the water to be getting into your body IYKWIM? SIGG has a really good reputation... I figure that cheaper ones are probably not going to last as long, it's usually the way.
You do usually have to buy an insulating sleeve for them.
Bath, do you have older Sigg bottles? There was an issue with contamination with them and I think even a recall. The newer ones don't have the problem though.
Whatever stops more horrible plastic bottles being made is alll good to me!
WHile on the subject of these, can you get them in 1lt+ size and can they be frozen? My kids need at least 1lts because of the length of time they are away from home on a schoolday (7.30 to 4.30) and ideally a bigger one would be great but I've only seen small ones around the 500ml mark.
Make sure you get stainless steel - not aluminium. Apart from keeping things warm or cool - stainless steel doesn't leech chemicals like plastic does. Foogoo does some cool ones - you can view tham on the Natures Child website. The Ecobabe site also has a range I believe.
I just found them too ROFL! I love that they have replacement caps too - always peeve me when the lid of a plastic one broke as you had to replace the whole lot.
I have an ecotanka and wouldn't buy another one. You have to buy the 'stubbie cooler' for it to actually keep the water cold. I've also had probs with the sippy pop-top thingy. Seem to get lots of air bubbles through it so now I take the top off to drink it.
For ds I have a foogo one which he loves, keeps his water cold all day at kindy which is good.
DH went with stainless steel too, over aluminium. Aluminium ones need to have a lining in it to stop the aluminium leaching into the water.. or something like that. He has a Klean Kanteen. We keep meaning to get the kids a bottle each, but haven't got around to it. The Cheeki ones are cute, but not sure what they're like.
I have a cheeki and a foogo. The cheeki isn't insulated but it's also a lot lighter if you're lugging about drinks in bags etc. I found the cap to be annoying and cut it off. Ours has a twist top to open/close. DD doesn't seem to have any issues with it.
My SIL had problems with two caps breaking when they were dropped which I think they replaced but I haven't had that issue.
I'd say it's probably about worth it's fairly cheap price compared to others. We use it a lot actually.
HTH a bit.
Oh, and for what it's worth, I would choose a stainless steel over aluminium every time - same for saucepans or whatever. Even my deodorant is aluminium free.
After starting this thread I came across some stainless steel drink bottles at my local health shop. They are the Ewan brand. I love the one I bought for myself but the extra sports lid is not working properly, so I'll taking that back. I ended up getting the girls a pink Ewan each for Christmas and I've ordered a Foogo sippy cup for miss Eva too.
So far I am really happy with the stainless steel bottle and my girls now drink from my container and not their plastic ones
