Amber necklaces????

There are a number of ways you can tell. One is if you get a lighter and burn it, if it melts, its plastic, if it sizzles and smells like pine tree's then its genuine.
Or if you dip it on acetone for a few minutes, take it out and dry. If its melted/sticky then its fake. If its the same as before you put it in, its genuine.

But that would ruin the necklace then?

That is very true. Although the acetone test wont be as destructive as burning it. But sadly that is the only way to test it. You could always try contacting the person for a extra bead of baltic amber to test if you wished.

Some people can taste the difference, but I think you have to know what your tasting for

Mine came with a certificate of authenticity... Don't know if everyone gives one, though.

Id say the bigger complanies do because they would have ABN to be able to import baltic amber in larger quantaties.
Me personally, I dont have a ABN yet so am very limited in the amount I can get imported and where from. Its hard stuff to get a hold of in huge quantaties.
