Amby Air Baby Hammock?

Does anyone have one? Are they good? Safe?

I have one, it's brilliant. I've had a cheap brand too and there's no way I'd get another over the Amby. The spring is bigger and better, the sling is held to the spring better, the sling and mattress are longer and the mattress is firmer. Very safe.

My DS fights sleep during the day and will only feed to sleep, and my DD was exactly the same. So I feed him to sleep, then transfer him to the hammock. He wakes up like always, but I bounce and rock him a bit, he just stares at me, closes his eyes and has a nice sleep. DD never slept well during the day until we got this. Until the hammock, DH couldn't get them to have day naps because he couldn't feed them to sleep, and if he managed to rock them to sleep in his arms they'd wake when he put them down. Now he can just put them in the hammock awake, bounce and rock them, either sing them or give them their seahorse and they nod off. It's not just a catnap either, because they generally put themselves back to sleep with rocking and bouncing

Thanks! How about length of use? On the website it says they can be used up to 12 months, but what happens when baby can climb & crawl?

I go by the strength of the spring - I can't remember how heavy it can go to.

DD used it until she was nearly two, she'd just call out when she woke up. DS rolls over in it when he wakes up, because the tv is behind it and he just rolls over and watches the cheeky bugger lol. I'm not worried about him being able to climb out, by the time he can get to a sitting position on his own and possibly climb out he'll be big enough to reach the ground if he does get out. It wouldn't be easy though, I think I'd see him well before he got out, or if I wasn't in the room I'd hear.

Thanks Teeki, I've just bought one second hand from our local buy & sell page on Facebook. After hearing your comments I'm relieved haha. A little excited to go pick it up tomorrow, $100 and used twice. Oh... Are they easy to wash?

Very easy to wash, though I haven't had to wash the mattress before as I use a mattress protector. Everything else goes in the machine.

The Amby Air is very safe . Amby hammocks have been stringently safety tested for 25 years now. The Amby Air was released in May of 2013 and was tested to British and European safety standards, and was designed with input from Standards Australia.

The actual space they take up is equivalent of a cradle or bassinet, but the hammock mattress is much longer and the way it cradles babies makes it much safer and you can use it for much longer. My eldest DS slept in his Amby until he was 23 months old lol! The spring included with the hammock can hold up to 12kg of weight. When he outgrew it, we added a second spring and that saw him through until he was almost two

So, is the Amby bigger than other hammocks? Or is that a standard size? I'd love an organic hammock but I just looked at an Arm's Reach one for example and I'm not sure if it's shorter, has a weaker spring, etc?

They easily fit next to your bed like a cradle or bassinet. The footprint of the frame is designed to fit through a standard door frame so it's easy to move from room to room

Meow - they are much larger than other hammocks which is why you can use them so long. I have not seen the Arm's Reach organic hammock? I have seen their other one which is much smaller than the Amby. We are looking at an organic range in the future

Yeah the space they take up in the room is quite small, just looking at mine I reckon the base would be similar to a bassinet or cradle (but then I've never had either of those so just a guess lol). I have mine in the lounge next to our couch because we only use it for day sleeps, and it fits perfectly right next to it.

The sleeping space is nice and long though, a toddler could easily fit in there.

They do take up more space than a bassinet but not by much. The thing for me though is I need space for it to be able to swing back and forward and that's where you need slightly more space. To help give you the visual in my spare room the bed is in the middle of the wall and there is enough space left on each side to fit a small bedside cabinet. My bassinet could fit down the side of the bed but the Amby couldn't. I just put him at the foot of the bed instead if I was in that room as I still have to get up to get him out so a few extra steps didn't bother me. I highly recommend the Amby though so if you can make it fit you won't regret getting one.

i bounce more than swing, so for me the footprint of the amby frame was the biggest part.

Thanks everyone. I picked up the "second hand one" which was only set up and used twice lol. I'm about to pop it all through the wash and hopefully use it tonight!! (It's 35 degrees here today, so it should dry quickly).

You can't go past an Amby! I had it set up so that part of the stand slid under our bed. During the day I could just put the cloth section on the bed and slide the whole base in udder our bed. Viola! A space saver!
