    DD! Need advice.

    Hey everyone,

DD is being very confusing this morning and I'm getting upset cause I dont know what she wants.

She slept from 9ish last night to 1.15am. Back to bed at 1.35am. Up at 5.30ish. Had a full feed of about 90ml. Was crying so I got up with her at 6am when she was full of smiles and she had a huge play on the floor.

Took about 30ml at 7am. Back to bed then.
Up at 8. Had another 20-30ml.
Back to bed at 8.30 cause she fell asleep in my arms.

Up at 9.15 had a cuddle with me and didn't want to play on the floor.
She was crying so I gave her another bottle.
    She took about 30ml.
Back to bed at 9.30 cause she fell asleep again.
Up at 10am. Bottle at 10.15 cause she was sucking on me and her hand.
    Took about 30ml.
    Back to bed.

She should have had a 3 hour sleep this morning.
But shes just grunting and groaning and wont seem to sleep.

I dont know what to do.

how old is she now? It could be a 'wonder week' when bubs get cranky and need a bit of reassurance.

She's 13 weeks tomorrow... but she was 6 weeks early. I'm not sure if that makes a difference to anything.

Hi Charlotte - I write this with a warning, this is seriously just my opinion but we were advised to do this by the lactation consultant and it really worked for us. I was BFing overnight but bottle feeding during the day EBM. The bottle feeding seemed to be causing her probs and like your DD she was wanting tiny bits all the time. It was explained to us that possibly, DD was finding drinking exhausting as the bottle was diff to the breast and she would only drink just enough to stave off hunger and then actually never be full enough to have a good play or sleep. So, we were told to try more milk but less often. So we were giving full 90mls every 3 hours rather than little bits all the time. It didn't make logical sense to me because if I had been BFing I would have been offering her a snack whenever she wanted but it actually worked for us. Just a suggestion.

I reckon she is just having one of those days that we all have .... just plian blah... if she isnt hot or rashy i wouldnt worry too much . She may be starting to teeth and that is upsetting her.

Yeah I know you aren't BFing and I was giving DD the bottle all day during the day as well. The LC explained that it was because she was just "doing her job" like "meeting her needs" from the bottle that if we gave her more milk but less often, she would be hungry enough to take a full feed, fill her belly and make her a bit happier.

hun, this whole baby thing is so hard isn't it.
She could be having a growth spurt or wonder week, it would explain the wanting to feed but falling asleep.

All i can suggest is lots of cuddles and go with the flow, if you can maybe try giving her a bit of tummy time or a baby massage.
A nice warm bath might help if she's got a bit of a tummy ache, just take nice deep breaths and see how she goes.

Like Starangelk, i have also found that 'snacking' can make it harder for bub to drink enough to get a big sleep. Can you take her for a walk in the pram or carrier and get a bit of fresh air?

I'm not sure how prematurity works with the Wonder weeks, but the theory predicts difficult periods at weeks 5, 8, 12, 19, 26, 37, 46 and 55 weeks.

I agree it sounds like snacking to me... which dd3 has done all day yesterday and today. Its so hard when they do this coz it feel like you cant please them. Maybe try and string it out between feeds, go for a walk or drive or something, then see how it goes. Yesterday Amy was having half bottles... today by lunch time shes had 4 feeds already... hard to say if shes having another growth spurt too. good luck

She's had a fairly rough day today.
I've got a cold and so I took her to my mums so mum could watch her and I could sleep because I feel horrible!

She's still doin the whole "snacking" thing. And crying heaps.

    Maybe she's got colic??

FWIW - my DS was 4 weeks early, but he was still bang on the wonder weeks as above - give or take a week at most

If she is 13 weeks perhaps a Wonder Week is the issue - I recall having an absolute cracker at week 12 - it was horrendous and went on for days - hang in there!!!
