I'm also allergic to banana. It's an allergy that has got steadily worse over the years. I used to be able to eat it without problems, then it started to leave me with an itchy throat, but if it was cooked I'd be fine... eventually even cooked banana left me itchy and it's now progressed to the point where I can't even touch a banana without reacting. Eating a grape that had been in a bag with a banana once gave me a pretty nasty esperience with feeling that my throat was closing up... I'm pretty sure it would be life threatening now if I were to eat one.

I'm also allergic to rockmelon in the same way, and kiwi fruit seems to be following. Fortunately we discovered the rockmelon allergy when I'd been chopping one up rather than eating it. My hands became very red, swollen and itchy. Please tell your friend to be extremely careful when introducing other fruits!

My SIL & MIL both break out in red bumps on the back of their tongues if they eat banana, that's all they get so they can still eat it - I've never had a problem but our first DD broke out in the same red bumps and would gag when we tried her with banana. We waited almost 18months before trying a little bit with her and she got the red bumps - she also gets them when she has strawberries but apart from that, she's fine. She eats banana regularly now and the reaction hasn't gotten any worse, if anything, the red bumps are slowly easing.
