    Default Baby clothing sizes

I was wondering what clothing size an 8.5 pound (4500g) newborn baby needs? I initially bought some 0000 and some 000 months ago to get through the first few weeks (in white as we don't know the sex) but was told today that unborn baby (8 days overdue) will weigh about 4500g give or take 700g and that size 000 clothing will be too small.
Can anyone with experience here help out?
    Many thanks

i find if they dont have feet in them 0000 will be fine. I have found with both my DD's the all in one grows never have long enough legs if the feet are attached iykwim. My dd2 i about 3.5kg now and is 4 weeks old and in all 0000 cept the all in ones, with them i need 000. I would go for more 000's to be sure they fit.

My DS was 9 pounds 2 ounces (just over 4 kilos) when he arrived! Depending on brand, he still wore size 0000 for 2 or 3 weeks, before moving on to 000.

If you are buying any bonds wondersuits, be aware that they are quite a small cut - we were always a size ahead in those.

If your buying wondersuits id suggest the K-Mart brand.. generous in sizes.

Yup i agree with hoody on the AIO's...DD2 is long so id need 000 for them kinda clothes too.

My son was born 7lb 5oz he was in 0000 for about 6 weeks, and now at 8.25kg still fits in 000. Alot depends on the shape of the baby and the brand, not necessarily weight

I find Target clothing to be larger then Kmart or Big W - so maybe get any all in ones from there? DS was 8lbs 4oz at birth and was a summer baby so wore 0000 for quite some time. I'm not sure he would have stayed in 0000 that long if he were a winter baby but who knows! Maybe buy mostly 000 and if you need something smaller you can always go and buy it after bubba is born?

It really depends on the length. My 2 were 8lb5 and 8lb10 DS wore 000 for about a month and he was 52cm DD wore 000 for about 2 weeks she was 57cm. Hope that helps

    4500g is actually 9lb14 oz not 8.5lb...

DS was 9lb and he was in 0000 for 4-5 weeks and 000 were swimming on him. He was a bit skinny but he was really long. So i reckon you'll have no problems with the 0000 & 000.

My DD was 8lb8oz born and was only in 0000 for 2 -3 weeks. I wish I knew this as I wouldn't have bought them at all. You can easily roll up the sleeves in 000. Also the bonds nighties are great. Doesn't matter how long your bubba is they will still fit.

My ob told me my baby was between eight and a half and nine pounds and to buy 000 clothes. He was right (she was 8lbs 10oz) and I did. They were a little bit big for her but not ridiculously so. She stayed in those for quite some time and at about 6kg is now in 00s mainly. She's very long though.

Thanks for all your responses- I was concerned because I had bought a bit of 0000 and 000 only to be told that they would be too small. From the sounds of it, I think I may be on the right track.
Thanks Antheia for your correction. I checked my notes from the Birth Clinic and the radiographer (?) (person who did the ultrasound) has written 8.5 pounds (4500g)?? I am not sure what she meant now! 9lb14oz is quite different to 8lb!

My OB just said "a medium-large baby" (8lb4oz). I had some 0000's and 000's that I took to hossy - the 0000's fit him for about 2 months, and we're just moving out of 000's in myer brand and in between 00's and 0's now in bonds, but still wearing 0000 singlets. Singlets last for ages in the smaller sizes, it's the feet that muck up sizes in wondersuits. Beanies too are strange sizings, better to have small not xs maybe, but with a tie to size them.

    Good luck!

Yeah, and remember that the u/s are quite inaccurate. I was told 2 days before my DD2 was born that she would be 10lb 11oz, and she was 8lb 13oz.. no where near the same weight. They measure the bones in the leg to make a weight estimate.... so maybe your baby is just tall like mine

With her, she was in 0000 for 1 week and then into some of the 000 I had.

Maybe they meant to write 3500g?

My DS was 8 pound 7 (3.83 kgs) when born and he was in size 0000 for maybe 3 weeks, but he was very long 53 cms born I think so the one peices were just too short. I was given too many 0000's and would never buy them for anyone else... As others have said 000's are fine, even if they're a little bit big it doesn't mattter too much.

I second on the wondersuits, either buy a size bigger or buy the target or kmart brand ones.
When it comes to wondersuits bigger is better anyway so you can use the mittens.
Don't forget even though you are really close to delivering your bub could be a completely diff size to what your being told.

DS was 7lb 14 and 0000 were a nice size for the first 2 weeks and 000's just gave that little extra room.

One thing I found though is my family has long backs and short legs so does dh's family, so of course we ended up with a bub that has a long back and short legs. this means his pant size is always smaller than his top and while his legs will fit into 000's his top is 00 and his socks are for that of a 6 month old 'cause he has huge feet so there is no way know he will fit into a 000 suit anymore. lots of bagy 00's for us here.
