okay girls,i payed 80 dollars deposit before the photo shoot and then had to pay another 310.so it is 390 all up girls,i only paid this last week so i know it is the amount that they are asking for at the moment,this amount has to be paid yearly.

Thanks Nikki, I might see if I can get Jackson on their books too, I guess it doesnt hurt to have a few options. Plus I reckon he would get more work if in a headshots book becuase he is a bit different with his bright orange hair.
B the way, if your child earns over 6,000 in a financial year, all the membership fees etc are tax deductible.
Kate, Tinlids only charge $140, and you only have to send pics of bubba in, if they like the pics they will accept her, they wont ask you down for an interview if they are not going to accept her

Min-I think you're only allowed to be on 1 agencies books. And I think it's standard for children younger than 2 not to have a headshots book because they change so much, so most rely on home taken photos.

Both my children have done modelling (DD for 4 years, DS for 1) with BubbleGum. mainly catalogue work for KMart and Target. Payrate was $80 per hour but the agent takes $12 of that each time. The annual fees ended up getting too high for us... after expenditures (including public transport tickets and occassionally specific clothing purchases for auditions etc) we only made a fraction more than costs. I think their fees this year are about $300 p.a. TinLids sounds very good in comparison! At least with BubbleGum you don't need to have a portfolio done... the photo headshot cost is incorporated into the annula fee. Babies don't go in the model book.
I must admit I've often found the whole process a bit frustrating. One time DD did a TV commercial as a background "extra" which meant spending the whole day on site (a parent in constant attendance) which was incredibly boring... all for $120 and the agent took some of that too. Catalogues are better because you can be in and out within 15 mins and still get paid for the whole hour... plus there is double-time for underwear and swimware shots.
I must say the people that actually take the photos have been great (especially at Huge Studios in Richmond). They are very good at making the children feel at ease. We've got some lovely catalogue images of our kids that they are going to be very proud of. My DD is fairly humble about it but secretly loves it when all her school friends come to school waving the latest Target catalogue with her in it! LOL
We're having a break from the whole thing this year (also because the fees are a bit beyond our tight budget)... but maybe next year after the new addition arrives i might do some more research into getting the kids involved again.
I must stress though... unless your child has specific talents, has done acting classes etc... don't see dollar signs. We've been to just as many auditons as 'paid jobs' and the preparation (eg learning lines etc) can be demanding and the disappointment a bit hard to deal with at times. Still, i must say i don't have any horror stories to relate over the 4 years they were involved.... more just minor irritations.
ETA: You can usually only be with one agent at any time (you sign a form promising this). Also nobody (including children) is taxed a cent until they earn $6000 so you would have to earn more than that to claim the cost of fees etc. I've yet to meet anyone who's made any serious money from early childhood modelling.... the money starts to come in with talents like acting etc (which of course cost money to develop). Also I'll eventually put up the images of my children modelling on my website. Target and KMart have online catalogues which you can copy the images from for your collection.
ETA #2: Added an image of my DD modelling in a Target catalogue to my website.
Oh, ok, 1 agency, makes sence. That's cool, am happy to stay with Tinlids for the year and see what happens.

Min, I suppose you would get alot of comments about Jacksons hair. We get heaps about Noah's and Tehya's. Although I must say red heads are becoming more popular. I remember when my little brother was at school, he was the only red hedd there. Now I think there will be more then 1 in the class.
I have done my researching too and can't seem to come up with too much info. I certainly don't want to pay a fortune to get my kids heads in the book for nothing. Does anyone know of a great and reputable agency in Sydney?
min,we went to sign chantelle up this morning at tinlids,i found that it was far more personal and she was alot more thorough in explaining the company to me compared to betinna,i am really glad that they wanted her as i felt very comfortable and not just a number,caroline was lovely.not to mention the price was far more affordable.so thankyou for putting me onto them i am very plaesed with the outcome,heres just hoping that some work comes up for all of us....

Just jumping in - we have an appointment on Monday at Tinlids. For those that are with tinlids - how many photos did you supply? I only have a few pixie photos that are really nice. All the others are just done with the digital camera at home and I haven't printed them. I'll have to get some printed at kmart tomorrow I suppose.....
Also the pixie photos are already nearly 2 months old?? I suppose they just want current photos...
I supplied 3 and they were home ones that I had taken but I had to take them back home and e-mail them to her because she thought they'd come out better than if she scanned them.

Kristie, current pics are better because then clients loggin onto Louis website, can see exactly what he looks like. They put 3 pics on their sites, and you are meant to email them more current ones if anything changes like a haircut, or new teeth, etc.
Sorry Trish & Meg, I dont know any agencies in Sydney, I suggest just doing a google search and reading client testimonials and stuff and researching from there.
We had Amy's photo taken at the recent Expo in Melb and got a call from Bettina last week. I had an appointment at 3:30 today but cancelled after doing some research on Bettina. There was a particularly interesting eBay forum I found when I Googled Bettina. So many people got the standard call ' Your baby didn't win the competition but we would like her to come in for an interview' and 'Bettina looked though the photos herself. We are interested in modelling Amy but $390 pa plus 20% commission is too much IMO. I will be looking for some more Agencies and doing some more research. Will also be keeping an eye on this thread. Well Louis had his meeting this morning and we're just waiting to get the pics up on the website...I was quite happy with how it all went so we'll just see. I don't mind if he doesn't get much/any work as it's just a bit of fun anyway. TinLids only costs $140 so it's not that big an outlay....

Well we had the interview with Bettina. It was interesting as I was in with another family (who seemed very serious about it all LOL). Maggie was her usual bubbly self and into everything. Anyway she has been accepted, but we cannot afford it. $390 is just too much, even though they did promise to extend for another 6 months no charge if she receives no work. I don't see it as a waste of time, as I finally got to have a look around the Docklands and met up with a friend who I had not seen in ages. So it was a good excuse to get out of the house.
So not sure if I will pursue it with another agency, I have a few other things on my plate at the moment. Even though it would be great to see Maggie in an ad, or catalogue etc

Just to let you know as well that I had a look on the Victorian Children's Agents Association website and Bettina is not a member. I'm not sure whether this is important but just thought I'd let you all know.....
Yep, good work Krisvee :) The director of BubbleGum is/was the president of that association I think and she was excellent at making sure everything was above board at all times. Her name is Jacki Jenkins and I think it's the oldest company in Melbourne. They have a good website... just Google "BubbleGum".
TinLids are going to make a mint out of BB LOL! It's funny though, got lots of jobs with Bubblegum but not one word from Tin Lids and Marisa has been with them for a year. But like Bathsheba mentioned, it is lots of running around (usually to Richmond at Huge Studios) for a small amount. BB keeps me busy enough!!!
That's interesting Kelly....I will wait and see. I wouldn't want too much work for him anyway for that reason...I find it funny that they say they limit the numbers to 15 each age group yet it seems like everyone gets accepted! hehe. I wonder if it's because they have such a high turnover of kids....

I've just been to the VCAA site and found out what they actually do:

So it seems that what ever agent you choose it's probably a good thing that they are members. TinLids are.

Tinlids finally replied to my email a week or so ago, and said that baby target were looking at Jackson the previous week and also the people that do the brandpower commercials. Then a few days later I got a child work permit in the mail for Jackson to be employed by huge studios, so I think this means that coles myer are planning to use him, I am getting excited!! Anyone else had any luck yet?

I've had a number of people say I should get Chloe (she's 6) into it.
Here's my question. The reason I haven't looked into it is because her teachers told me she needs to gain self confidence. Do you think this would make it worse or better?

Wew ere told a few years ago & then approached to have maddison signed up with a modelling Agency, at the time it didnt appeal, we were too busy with Visa's etc...
A short time later I saw an add for Tinlids & called up made an appt & went in, maddy was talking away to the lady & she said she'd like to have maddy on her books...
So we went & had her headhsots done & she went into a portfolio book thingy which she was proud of (age 3/4) at this stage... Then a day came for her to have photo's done for a catalogue..
We went in to the city & made a day of it, but as soon as we walked into tghe studio to have pic's done she burst into tears became awfully shy, withdrawn etc & flatly refused to wear anything they asked her to wear so we left!
I never bothered with anything after that, coz it was a waste of time & she was too embarassed!...
She was always very quiet, shy & timid, but this day was the worst!
Now she is in grade 2 at school, a very small school with a total of 120 students she is exceptionally popular, gets up in front of class, school etc on stage in concerts & is really confident now...
I think the school has made the most change of all & the modelling in all honestly really deflated her!
But maybe ask your DD if she'd like to give it a go & if SHE wants to then maybe look into it...

Yep, I've also found that when my DD does modelling jobs she also becomes more quiet and reserved than what she is usually (her normal character is quite outgoing and she rarely is quiet!). She's normally never shy but especially at the beginning (when she started doing catalogue modelling at age 7) she was a little hard to "warm up" to the job. Now she is used to the staff (especially at Huge Studios for Target jobs) and isn't reserved but still isn't as outgoing as she is at school. Modelling has been good for my DD because she kinda needed to calm down a little and learn to follow instructions (which she's done well because of her work)... but i agree, if a child is naturally reserved in her comfort zones of home and school then i would think twice about modelling because it does generally make the most outgoing child a little anxious at times.

Min, Jack has had his first photoshoot at Huge Studios about 3 weeks ago for either a Target catalouge or big poster instore. So we will have to wait a few more weeks till we know when he will be on display!!!:p :p
I got the permit from Huge Studios too for a year..

hmm, i am starting to think none of us are going to get anywhere with Tinlids. Every time I send an email, no reply, so I wait a week or so and send another, and strangely everytime they havent received the 1st email and they are having server problems. Plus the spiel I got about Jackson being looked into by two clients is the exact same spiel a friend of mine just got, but the client names had been changed.
I am p'd off I went with Tinlids now, I know if I had of taken the plunge and paid a bit more for the registration fee that Jackson would've had work. He is such a unique looking bugga (I know I am biased, but he really is, haha!) I am going to wait out the 12 months and go with someone else if he has had no work
i have to say that bettina arent that crash hot.
They fee is large, they dont reply to emails, and the photos they took were never updated, even when i offered professional photos out of my pocket.
After a little bit of investigation, i had 5 friends call up and take their bubs in, all were accepted, and it kinda makes me think they take them all on and make an acception every now and then to make it seem like they are picky iykwim. im looking for a new agency but im going to be much more careful, throwing away $400 isnt something i like to do.
No one i know, so far (and of course there would be an exception) has been offered work at all from Bettina, the most we got for our $400 was a newsletter every 4 or 5 months and some very poor quality photos.
I wouldn't pay anything upfront if there isn't work guaranteed. JMO.
Unfortunately you have to pay upfront and they never can guarantee work.
As I mentioned at the start, I never get any correspondance from Tin Lids :) Looks like we're all in the same boat :) I have given up, I don't want to go back to Bubblegum even though we did get work, but it's just not worth the effort for $60-$80 a shoot! :)
