    Question Baby Shops in Vienna????

Just wondering if there are any members in Austria - (or other members) who know the name of some baby stores in Vienna, (or their web sites) which i can look up so as to hire or purchase car seats please??

I went baby stuff shopping in Vienna, there are baby shops there but can't for the life of me remember much about them!

I'll ask my Austrian friend if she knows names as she's currently living in Vienna - just may be a while before you get an answer, but just to let you know that I've seen this and an answer should be coming.

Just an idea maybe, would the car hire companies have them to hire?

we have booked to have a car seat when we hire our car, but wanted to check out prices to purchase it out-right tho? It cost 280 euro to hire and the car hire company couldn't tell me definately if they use brand new ones over in europe for each new car hire or just clean used one? and for hire price it might work out just the same to buy brand new? thanks for reponses tho

OK, here's what my friend says:

Just got back to Vienna and my computer and checked the thread you sent me the link.

For car seats I'd definitely go to ÖAMTC - Austrian Automobile Club.
They have the safe ones (meaning the tested ones.).
~removed due to no-link policy - give me your e-mail if you want me to send it to you~ is the link for baby seats - but you can easily find that via google: ÖAMTC and the use the site search to look for "Babysitz". Should be the first link then. (I have no idea if they have an English version of the site or if the woman who looks for it knows enough German to translate it...)

Anyway, it says (I know you know it but it might be easier that way ;-):
Car seats can be hired for up to 12 months, in all ÖAMTC shops (there is a link to all shops there as well, so just have to look up the closest) For non-members it's Euro 39,97, for member 32,70. (doesn't say if that's for 12 months or one month, though) They should get it with the baby so they can test it right there.

And baby shops, well, we went to C&A and H&M, which is normal prices... (NB this is for Austria - a bit cheaper than the UK, but a bit more expensive than Australia)
I can look up some special baby shops like designer clothes for babies but that might take a bit. ;-)

Oh, just re-read the last post... no idea where they are hiring the car, but 280 euro is waaaaaay to much just for a car seat! They really should check out ÖAMTC, since they do the tests with car seats and all, too.

If you are thinking of purchasing the car seat outright you will more then likely find that it is non-compliant to Australian standards and cannot be fitted to Australian cars so therefore it will become redundant when you come back here. So unless you are planning on doing a lot of European travel in the next few years it may not be worth purchasing it.

Reason I say this is that we are currently encountering the same problem - we are picking our car up in Italy and our car seats from here will not fit into their cars (also for insurance purposes they will not allow it), so therefore we have to purchase car seats through the car place (they do not have a hire option) but these will not be able to be fitted to our cars back here, so we will be stuck with 2 "unusable" car seats. In our situation tho we are happy to wear this as we go to Europe every 2-3 years so they will come in handy anyway.

    Hope that helps.

thanks gabysmum, will keep that in mind about car seats not being able to be used back in Oz.
Thanks Ryn for asking your friend too, i did check out the Austrian auto club, but have to get DH to read it 4 me as i can't read German and there doesn't appear to be an english version. But it will still work out cheaper to hire one thru them for 39 euro even if its per month than the 280 Euro for 6 weeks that the car hire company wants to charge us...
