    baby skin chafing :(

Our baby girl is getting chafed in the area where her leg meets her vulva, in that crease there. The skin is broken and it looks sore! (And that's a sensitive spot to be sore in.)

It seems impossible to keep that area totally dry. It gets damp from her sweat if nothing else, I guess. We are going through about 15 nappies a day, changing her any time we think she's wet. I don't think we're slacking there.

We've been keeping it as dry and clean as we can, without actually rubbing it, and putting a little Sudocrem (we had a sample of that from the bounty bag) on it with each nappy change to keep the urine etc out.

Is this the right course of action to take, or should we be doing something different? It's been 3 or 4 days now, I think, and it doesn't seem to me to be healing. We'll ask the nurse about it on Tuesday, but any advice now would be welcome. I'd hate for her to get an infection or thrush or something there.

Tenar - how upsetting to see her sore! My DS had terrible nappy rash from some medications and his bum couldnt even take cream any more as it was raw. The only thing we did that really helped was take his nappy off and let his little bum have some fresh air. We did it every day for as long as we could - often around an hour at a time. Not sure if this is doable for you at all with the cooler weather.

I hope someone comes along with the answer for you soon.

It sounds like you are doing everything right as in keeping her as dry as possible and cream.
If possible give her a bit of nappy free time as the air will help dry it.
Just put down some towels on the floor or if in the bassinet a towel and a open nappy under her.

I have found the natural instinct range good for nappy rash and they now have a babies range out. it can be bought in the chemist and is made locally.
Some of the other mums really like a product called moo goo.

All the best and congratulations on being a mum to a new DD

Try a different cream! Sudeocreme wasn't agreeable with DS2's skin and within a couple of changes using curash it was on the mend

the ideas above are great, especially the fresh air. but if it doesnt clear up, i would take her to the doctor because it could end up being a fungal thing, especially in that area and being in the crease.
