Ok so Christmas is less than a month away (Ugh!) and i have finally decided just to get something small for bubs for her first christmas. I mean she is only 2 months old and doesn't really need anythingmuch in toys anyway. We have just bought her one of those fold out kids lounges and we are opening a bank account in her name with some money in it. (Plus i dare sare she will get enough presents from her grandparents, being the first grandchild and all!!!)
I was wondering what other families out there bought for their bubbies first christmas??
I got DD a set of stacking rings, the Fisher Price "Laugh & learn puppy", a book and I'm making her a christmas stocking (still on my to-do list!). I also bought a heap of blocks and plastic shapes off ebay and wrapped them up individually then put them in a big box. I know she won't understand what's going on, so I think it's more for me than her at this stage! Lol. But I want to make our first family christmas special, before it was just like any other day and we didn't make a fuss, we were also always at either of our parent's houses, but this year we will be at home (I think).
There are so many other things I want to get her, but dont want to go overboard!
DS1 was the youngest for his first Christmas, he was born in November. So he got a playgym to lie under on the floor.
This year DD2 will be 5 months & will be getting a blowup pool...maybe a couple of little toys... they don't need much or care at this age which makes it so easy!
You might want to think about toys / things she will use a month or two after Christmas... at this age they are growing & developing so quickly, by Januarly your LO will be 4 months & doing a whole heap of different things to what she is now, KWIM? At that age, things they can grab onto & chew on are big winners, and DD2 has a palycentre we got off EBay (one they sit / stand in & has a tray with toys etc).

DS first christmas I bought lots as couldnt help myself!!
Most things for when he a year old but hay at least I had stuff in cupboard so when he got bored I could bring out new toy!!
Best thing I bought was fisher price "baby's first toy box" was great full of lots of cool toys that he loves still stacking things, phone, elmo hmm cant remember what else is in it!! Was in big w anyway (actually bought for him after appt that told me I was being IOL that night)
N has, a decoration for the tree with space for a photo (his sister has the same), a squishy ball, a bath puff (dumb I know but he loves the bath and it has a fabric covered head for him to chew), some musical instruments (for his sister to play with him - maraccas and the like) and little play gym thingy.
ss-storm, ... my DD was given the same Puppy toy for very 1st Xmas from her grandparents & she still plays with it now at 3.5years old
feeb, ... we too went nuts, i just couldn't buy enough for my DD, especially special keepsake gifts that she will be able to keep as an adult
... one of the gifts i got her was a big Xmas teddy personalised with her name it so it can be pulled out for each & every Xmas until it falls apart, LOL
like Alibaby & Kim suggested ... i too truly think it's lovely to get them a special Xmas ornament like the Hallmark one's you can get in Target ... so it represents their 1st Xmas to be placed on the Xmas tree each year & so they can keep it themselves as an adult (that's if you don't keep it yourself when they an adult)
Smiles - we went to a friend's house that has a 15 month old and she had one of those puppies. DD loved it so that's when I thought I would get her one. Let her play with it for a bit before I wrapped it up and she couldn't get enough of it!
I asked my mum if she could get her a trolley cover, for when she is old enough to sit up in the trolley rather than using the capsule, she will have something a bit softer, and cleaner to sit on!
Might ask the other set of grandparents to pitch in for a high chair or a walker, my mum also suggested a swing but I don't know where we would put it.

Thats A great idea ss_storm! I don't have a capsule, so either leave the bub with hubby or just put her in the layback baby seat ontop of the trolly on a blanket.
Abbey was given so many things when she was born, have lots and lots of books and grabby kinds of toys already, so i may wait until the post-christmas sales and get some more interactive toys then. Also has enough teddy bears to sink a ship (yes i realise that it would take a lot of bears to sink a ship, being that they are stuffed with fluffy fillings - but i swear she literally has that many!)

DS's first Christmas he was 10m old. He got some clothes and wooden blocks and I wrapped him up some big boxes... he ignored the empty boxes and the box of tissues I gave him. I had saved those empty boxes for ages for DS on the premise that "babies like boxes". He was given duplo and a ride-on from his godparents, which he adores still. And ignored the boxes for them too!
I tend to give DS a special outfit for the day and just one toy for Christmas: he gets things from other people and I buy him presents all year round. Otherwise I'd buy him things he wanted/needed to help development and just store them up for months, which isn't as fun because then it's toy overload.
I bought gorgeous christmas books in which DP and I each wrote personalised messages to DS, something to read together each christmas as he gets older!
We bought him the hallmark christmas ornament (actually I bought all 5 didn't realise they were dated on the back) but I got it out of his glory box today and the little hand has snapped of the teddy
He got plenty of other stuff from rellies - far too much in my opinion..
DD was only 3mths old so we did a photo book for her, pics from when she was born until x-mas with a special message from us in the cover.
Then at easter we did all her x-mas photos to easter etc.
I think we also got her the smurfs DVD for something to watch every now and then... lol not that she really watched it, more to put away for when she's bigger!
A great idea is to start collecting the disney vault movies etc, they can be put up for when they are older.
Katie - I was looking at the Trolley Monster ones but they are a bit expensive. mum said she found one at a proper baby store for about half the price. There are also the ones in Big W, the 'Shop & Play' ones, but I said to mum I wasn't too keen on them..I don't want DD to HAVE to have something to play with all the time..she laughed at me when I said I would like for DD to just sit there and be happy to look around, not having to have a toy to play with to keep her behaving/quiet (is that too much to hope for?!?). Should last at least a couple of years, and keeps her away from the grotty germs on the trolley! On trolley monster you can also get capsule covers, but for the price it's not worth it as you can really only use them for a few months anyway, but if you were going to have more kids and bought a unisex cover you could get a fair bit of use out of them.
We are getting Santa photos done too (hopefully next week if I can drag DF down to the shops with me!), I guess that is more a present for us than for DD, but it's time we will never get back and I don't want to look back in 10 years time and wish that we had gotten photos of her first Christmas with Santa.
DS will be 4 months at Xmas and I am getting him a teether (or my nan is), and just a few toys for him that hand me downs from DD.. I am looking at the 6 month ones.
For DD, she was 6 weeks at her first xmas, and she got a playgym and small toys to grab onto..
We went CRAZY with our kids first christmas's.
But my SIL will have a NB this christmas, only 4 wks old. I have decided to order a pack of personalised vinyl and clothing labels. I did this for her first born too, who was only 2 wks old at her first christmas. Not very exciting, I know. But practical.
