Had my DD's in a bassinet in our room at night until they slept through. Used the cot for day sleeps from about 4 weeks, with dd2 was worried my oldest might accidentally tip the bassinet over while I was preoccupied going to the loo. I liked the convenience for night feeds of having the bassinet at arms reach
With MrJ, it was bassinet straight away and he never really ended up doing the cot thing much in the end because at 7 months (still in the bassinet) we started co-sleeping most the time and haven't gotten out of the habit until recently. MrT was co-sleeping with me at first, then I started putting him down in his bassinet at bed time, after the first night feed I attempt to put him back into the bassinet but then after that (if he wakes again) he comes into bed with me. They just look so tiny in the cots to me when they are first born, although I will definitely be putting bub in the cot when he gets bigger as I'm done with co-sleeping lol
We opted for no bassinette but got one of those Tetra snuggle beds and used that in the cot. Also used a hammock through the day if it was too hot in the back of the house.
I also got the snugglebed secondhand because I just couldn't justify the expense buying it new when they are in it for such a short time.
My theory was they are in the same "environment" being in the cot from the get go, its just the snugglebed removed when she got too big. Didn't seem to have any transition issues either
We got a bassinet for free (my ILs only paid $20 for it and it was in fantastic condition) and DS was in that for 6-8 months. I've just cleaned it up and getting it ready for this bubba

I bought both, being my first I don't know what I'll use? I'm glad I bought my moses basket though, beucase as I get closer the idea of not having hte baby in my room for the first month I really dont like LOL.
I got the King Parrot Hamilton Cot
and the Sleepy Spaces Moses Basket in Morning Glory print.
We also have a 2 story place so I thought it would be good for bringing baby to where we were during the day rather than having to always be going upstairs and relying on monitors.
I bought a rocking stand with mine so bubs is up off the floor.
