With DD, when I left work they gave me a huge box (was a kids wheelbarrow sort of thing) full of goodies like nappies, wipes, soaps, lotions, washers, singlets etc...

With DS, a beautiful memory I have was a gift from friends who didn't know where we were staying, went to the trouble to find out and they sent us a 'bouquet' from babycupcakes.

Maybe ask the girl in question if she has everything she needs/wants? You guys could get a voucher from a baby shop, or for someone to do the nappy drop off pick up thing if she is doing cloth nappies. Maybe a treat for her too?

I second the tommee tippee nappy wrapper.... I got one as a mat leave gift and use it many times a day!

Definitely my microwave steriliser! I hadn't planned on having to bottle feed so it came in very handy when i least expected it too!

Nothing like a cuddle from DD after a hard day's work!

The best thing would be a bassinet. We had a cot in the baby nursery but found the bassinet so much more useful for a newborn.

I second Jennifer's vote for the swing. Calvin LOVED his swing - and it allowed me to shower/eat in peace during cranky times!
