    Bigger Baby Wraps

Just wondered what everyone thinks about the size of baby wraps.... Did you find them all too small?

My friend is pregnant with her second bub & we were talking about wraps today. Her daughter was over 9lb at birth & quite long so she found the normal sized wraps were too small after a few weeks. So anticipating another big bub she's been thinking about where to get wraps. Does any particular shop you can think of carry big ones? What size should we be looking for, did you find a particular size that was perfect for an older or bigger bub?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I found them too small pretty quickly too Sarah - I couldnt find any bigger ones really (although I didnt look that hard as she went to sleeping bags at 8 weeks) but I will definately buy some nice material and make some for number 2# - a friend of mine uses cot sheets to wrap and then balnkets over the top.

Sarah, I found DD grew out of the store brought ones very quickly. My mum made a heap of them for me and I also got some bigger ones from Spotlight, pre cut and overlocked and they were great, used them up until I stopped wrapping DD. They make them in muslin or cheesecloth. You might have to ask where they are though, at Spotlight in Penrith they used to have them in a basket near the muslin and cheesecloth. They were about $12 from memory. I'm going to get some more when bub is born and I know what colours to get, I've already got two pink ones from DD.

Sarah, i found some really good ones in big W, they are Dymples brand, stretchy cotton 75x100cm.
They are great, i can still fully wrap Macauley in them at 9 months old.
I think it's $10 for 3, they come in all kinds of prints.

I hope this is what your looking for

Yep always get too small too fast!

i reccomend to clients to use an old single sheet... (really thin etc)

they can cut it smaller, or keep it whole, either way works great if cutting it in half though there is always a back up if one gets wet, poo'd on, spewed on etc... lol

Sarah, I totally hear you. I have LOADS of wraps which never saw the light of day with Charlie & Lexie as they were just too small, and none of my babies where even big!

However, I did have a couple of 1m square muslin wraps which have done the distance, and Pumpkin Patch stock 1m square wraps in stretchy thick cotton which are really useful.

Also, the lovely nappy cake that I was sent by the beautiful mods.....that contained 3 flanelette wraps that were 1m square too......they have seen a lotta love!

My advice? 1m square, in a selection of different weights of fabric.......

There are a bit exy (Around $20, which is a lot for a wrap I guess).........but great quality and just the right thickness.....(thick stretchy t-shirt material in 100% soft cotton) and edged with piping.......I am not sure if they still stock them.......the last time I bought one from there was when I was pg with lexie, so a year ago perhaps?)

Easy to make though, if you are crafty........

    AJP is it 180x200?

Ok so a metre square seems the go, or around abouts that size? I never measured mine & they're all packed away so I can't really check right now.

Hi Sarah, we used a flat cot sheet from when DS was 9 weeks old. He was only 6lb11 born so the little ones were great then but the cot sheets were just right when he grew a bit bigger as he used to escape from the little ones.

Sarah you can get ones from Living Textiles that are 120 square, they are a great size for not so new borns.

Also with Tehya, after we'd been at Tresillian, I got mum to make up some wraps for us that were close to 2 metres long and what ever the width was right from the fabric roll. Atleast 120cm I think.

Of course I have just passed these wraps on, before finding out that I was having another girl !!
Spotlight has some gorgeous prints to make your own wraps now too. Best I go shopping.

Sarah, I think 1m square are easier to find (I think BGalore sell them too) but they would've only lasted us around 4 months... We use bigger ones here - sheets, etc.

Milo was a big baby (10lb04oz at birth).
After a few weeks the smaller wraps were just useless.

100x100 and 120x120 were the easiest for me to find, but it was at baby shops

pumpkin patch, bubba blue, living textiles and there was one more brand all make the 120x120 muslin wraps, and they were nice and light, and stretchy.

Milo was wrapped til about 5 months.

I also found interlock stretch cotton was good, I got a few metres at spotlight and just hemmed the ends.
