Not sure if any of you have had this too, but was really curious as to what it was about.
Its a little bit funny but still weird. DD has never been one to get freaked by loud noises. She doesn't flinch during storms, doesn't easily scare through loud bikes etc. I swear sometimes she could sleep through a nuclear war! But she is terrified by the toilet flushing! Im not even joking! She is NEVER a sooky baby I had soooooo many people comment that on Australia day when we were at a friends house she was such a social baby to people who had never even met her before, she would sit on their laps and play and laugh with them. But everytime she is having a crawl around and I go to the toilet, the minute I flush it she crawls a million miles an hour in the other direction screaming and crying! Now I don't know about anyone else, but the toilet is really the LAST thing that I want her to be scared of kwim? Anyone been through this, or have any advice for how I could fix this? Thanks
Our DD when little, had no problems with loud noises BUT when someone drove past spinning their wheels or a motorbike flew past us squealing a high pitch note, then DD would go off. We got her hearing tested and was told that she has sensitive hearing, and that's why she was reacting to the high pitch sounds!

Its normal babe....some kids are scared of the noice of the vaccy, a food processor, the toilet flushing, the lawn mower.......
There are so many new and exciting things for a baby to explore and hear. What is a perfectly normal sound for us can be 10 times as frightening for a little person.
Maybe take her into the loo and let her flush it and make a song and dance about it...

Hm, you're right, this is not something you want her to be scared of in the long term. I guess I would try bringing her in before you flush and holding her and explaining to her what's going on and talking calmly etc and then maybe have her help you flush. Your presence and her involvement might make it less scary for her. Maybe try to turn it into a game? (because, of course, you always want your daughter coming in and flushing the toilet for you! LOL)
I remember being scared of the toilet when I was little, lol. I thought something was going to come out of it and get me when I flushed it or something.
Maybe try slowly getting her more comfortable with it. e.g. take her in there and show her the toilet, get her to touch it, hold her and flush it, get her to press the button (maybe make it seem like fun). Do these slowly over a few days and see if she can get used to it??
yeh Mia is **** scared of the vaccuum cleaner.... screams and screams and waves hr arms like a mad woman.
I agree with Maz - give it a go. But knowing ava shes gonna scream the minute u take her near the toilet yes?
have u tried closing the lid before u flush.. doesnt seem to be as loud. Trying coughing when your flushing, gives her ur coughing to concentrate on with the flushing in the background... then cough less and less iykwim. Just throwing some ideas out there... hth xoxo
