Blocked nose (Warning: Maybe TMI)

Look, I apologise to anyone reading this....... there is refernce to what I term "greeblies" in here, so if it makes you feel crook, look away now.

How on Earth do I unblock Daniel's nose?

He doesn't have a cold or anything, it's just the usual run of the mill greeblies. When he's on the change table I can see that his nasal passages are blocked. DH and I both suffer from bad hayfever, but we can blow our noses! Poor old Daniel can't and I hear him breathing through his nose when he's feeding - it's makes me feel like I am suffocating. He's perfectly happy and unaware though. This is especially evident when he gets up in the morning - I suppose he breathes through his nose and the greeblies get like concrete up there during the night.

I have found that his swimming lessons are a great sinus cleaner as he always comes away with clean nostrils (must be all that dunking he gets). I can't really take him to the swimming pool everyday, the bath doesn't seem to have the same effect - but then, I don't dunk him in the bath and I'm not about to start. (Weird how I don't have a problem dunking him at the pool but I do have a problem dunking him in the bath).

If anyone is still with me here, do you have any advice?

Im not sure from what age you can use dimetapp drops, maybe aske the chemist about them as they will celar up the mucuous albeit temporarily.

You could also put a vaporiser in his room at night.

Or get the little fess nasal stuff - I found it difficult to use, but DS was a bit older than your son so he was more prone to wriggling away!

Thanks rayray, I didn't think of asking the chemist.

He had oral thrush and the chemist (and later midwife) recommended medication, but the thrush just went away by itself, so I sort of wiped chemists from my mind - because of the useless medication they provided me (just made his tongue go yellow).

get the nasal aspirator, works a treat to suck the snot out!!!!!!

I use the aspirator from the Fess for Little Noses pack. Works well but Abbey often tries to fight it and has mastered pushing my hand away JUST as I'm about the get that little booger! That or she kicks me!
Another thing that I find helps a lot is tummy time. Even when she doesn't have visible boogers in her nose a heap comes out! Who would have thought such a tiny baby could produce so much booger????

When Sebastian has a blocked nose I use an eye dropper and put a drop of either saline or breast milk up his nose. Often it will make him sneeze and I can remove the offender! Or at least it seems to stop it being so stuffy, and he can breathe better. I find that also giving him a feed helps - the same way that when I have a blocked nose it gets better if I drink something.

Ella has had a lot of time with the Fess bottle up her nose and the aspirator sucking out the goobers.

The only way i can do it is to wrap her so she can get her arms in the way...

My baby too had a nose blocked. It makes him hard to breath sometime and of course got to breath through his mouth. I cant stand to see him crying always especially after feeding and I got to burp him a while where he started to cry and cry and cry..he felt uncomfortable..poor baby. I guess the aspirator can be found at pharmacy? can it be used for 2 motnhs old baby?

Suzy, here in vic you can get it from the supermarket and pharmacy. There is no age limit. I used it on DD when she was 2 weeks old.
