    boiled water

Our little man is 7 weeks and seems to be getting dehydrated. He has a bottle goes to sleep then when he wakes a few hours later, his lips are quite dry. Do you think it would be ok just to give him even 20ml of boiled water? I know bf babies get everything they need from it but he is formula fed, just a bit worried

Bubs doesn't actually need water until they start solids. It can be bad for their Kidneys & is often no recommended in a bubs, especially that young. When he wakes is he being fed a bottle?

I was told from my CHN that cos DD was FF she could have water but only a tiny amount and especially in the hotter weather FF babies need water..so i think the best thing would be to see ur GP or CHN.

i think if you have a lot of heating, or air conditioning, babies can sometimes need a teensy bit of water... do what you feel comfortable with, if he drinks it i think it is fine, but im pretty relaxed when it comes to stuff like that.... its only a drop of water IYKWIM.

I was told to give Jesse water too if he would take it during the warmer weather and he had it before he started on solids. Some babies dont start until theyre 6 months old and what do you do in the hotter months? Jesse use to sweat big time last summer too.
He was bottlefed from 9 days. Breastfed babies dont need it, just an extra boob feed will do.

Charlie is not yet on solids & on advice from 2 professionals we do not give him water. Where we are living its currently already 34 & has been for a couple weeks. I never used to heat his bottles, just have them at room temp. Now I put them in the fridge to cool them down for him now. I agree a very small amt is ok, but that's just it...a small amt. Like Blanchie said, speak to a professional if you are not sure as it's not as simple as being casual, it can actually affect the kidneys.

in addition to what others said, maybe check him while he's sleeping, maybe he just breathes through his mouth and it makes his lips dry.
My little one seems to be quite a warm baby, and on warmer days he has just been a little more demanding on the food front, but he is bb fed so he just gets extra on those days.
if it's just his lips there is some stuff alled marcalan that is intended for nipples, but also makes great lipgloss and won't hurt bubs.

But I think with the water at the end of the day being dehydrated is worse for the kidneys than a few mils of water would be, maybe judge it on the contents of his nappy iykwim (no wee or hard poo could mean he needs more liquids)
