so miss 8.5 months has discovered sitting up in her cot, turning around, getting caught in the bars etc... most of this them equal screaming, non stop screaming! the only way i could get her to have sleeps yesterday was to lie down with her in our bed and feed her, i dont like to do this and not keen to continue it at all, not when i have a 3 yr old as well. i know im not the only one to have these sort of issues but help pleasssssssssse, tell me it wont last long
i feel also that some of it is related to seperation anxiety as she needs to be attactched to me at all times sitting next to me isnt the same as on me apparently
im worried abouot starting bad habits such as feeding in bed and wearing her in a sling, that make me a little anxious that i wont be able to break the habit.
anyone have an advice???
I'm probably not a huge amount of help as we still wrap and cuddle Sam to sleep before he goes in the cot...
He did decide around the same age that he would thoroughly explore his cot, before this he would wake up in the same spot you put him down and just not move at all. We found that the air wrap cot bumper helped a huge amount with him getting arms and legs stuck in the bars. We've recently rearranged his room as he would love to stick his arms out and play with the cords for the monitor, so it didn't stop deliberate actions, but it did stop the getting stuck thing.
I wish I could help more, but I think that's all I've got.
I've found Sam like that plenty of times! He was just starting to be able to go into the cot awake and put himself to sleep sometimes... and then we had to lower the cot matress so we're back to square one again.
All I can say is thank god im not alone! Our Little Miss has turned into a terrible sleeper over the last few weeks. We are back to co-sleeping full time and although trying everything that we can think of cuddles and keeping her close are the only ways to get her to drift off.
Have you noticed a change to day sleeps as well or just night ones?
Here I was thinking that by 8 months she might actually sleep through the night! Hope your little one gives you some peace
team mk, day sleeps as of yesterday are worse! she went down last night only because DH gave her a bottle of EBM (after i had already fed her) and i went to the supermarket! only woke once and resettled fine *phew* so far today hasnt been as bad as yesterday, will see what the remainder of the day brings though!
sara the girls sound the same! i hope they figure out that moving in the cot is ok!
I found that a sleeping bag helped with getting arms and legs stuck... And made it harder for DS to crawl in the cot too... He has since overcome that and can run and jump in the bag, but at 8m it was a good help...
Oooh just subscribing...Nate co-sleeps usually and is such an acrobat that any contact with the cot has his a screaming heap.
He has learnt to sit himself up too and won't be laid back down...
Sorry I forgot to mention last night I too put L down in a summer sleeping bag, works wonders coz he can't get his legs stuck through th side, but doesn't stop the sideways sleeping though! Gald you had a better night last night
That's about the age we gave up on the cot Olive He's slept happily on a mattress on the floor since then - co-sleeping when he's teething/sick and needs more comfort.
I think sometimes it helps to think of co-sleeping, feeding to sleep, sling wearning (and all those 'naughty' things) as not so much bad habits, but things that my baby needs from me right now. It will pass.
I guess as she gets more mobile, those limbs are a bit tricky when they get stuck! I thought to try an air wrap too, I was considering it, but then #1 stopped getting stuck for some reason.
Just wondering, your story about DH needing to give the second bottle got me wondering if she's a bit trickier because of the heat? Maybe she's sticking to you because she knows that's where the drinks are? Maybe some cooled boiled water would help for sleeps?
thanks for all the help
as for the sleeping bag, shes in one everynight (except last night as it was too hot here) she actually slept well 7-430 fed then til 7am, but i dont use it during the day she slept both sleeps yesterday and last night on her side ans slept well once asleep then this morning on her side and slept for 90 mins, this arvo on tummy (first time ever) but only 30 mins.
i think now she can move around she'lll find a comfy spot and it will get better!
nelle i tried the water a few days ago and she wasnt impressed!! wanted boob!
I found 8 months impossible for sleep. DD wanted co-sleeping and feeding to sleep (no cot thanks mummy) for about 3 weeks. It passed. Then she started cutting 4 more teeth, so we're back there.
IMO there's no such thing as bad habits. You and your baby have a relationship that is constantly changing. Some days they need this and some days that, some days you want to give it to them and other days you find another way...its all one big wave.
