bubba too hot in car seat?

hi there,

over time we get bub in the car seat to drive anywhere more than 5 minutes away, he gets too hot and sweaty and ends up saturated on his head, and sometimes his back too ...

ideas??? please?

DD is the same!! Even with the aircon on she gets all hot and sweaty...

Maybe those sunshade things on the windows will help? I haven't got ones up on the side... just the back window..

Maybe he's just a hot bod. Ds is the same too. Maybe if you have any of the extra head padding, take it away and see if it makes a difference

One of my boys is the same. I find he is an overly warm boy as he hates blankets on at nights too!

A cold face washer for bub to suck on.

A spray bottle of water you can spray over the top like a mist can help.

Same happens to us but not as badly I don't think. We still have DD rearward facing and I think it's the extra insert that's in her seat. I went to remove it and it says it must be used in the rearward facing position - arrrgh!

DD used to be the same. I sometimes put a bamboo muslin in the seat before her to act like a liner because I can't think the synthetic materials that the seat must be lined with help much.

I think that's a good idea, the muslin wraps are a cooler fabric or even a cooler cotton, you could grab an offcut from spotlight or something. I find our car seat is really warm too! We put covers on the windows and have just turned bub around facing th front which has helped heaps as the air con can acutally reach him now.

my kids are all sweat monsters too! My ds8 even wakes up in the morning with beads of sweat covering his nose an thats with his fan on full tit an no blankets! As for dd I just make sure she only has very little clothes on ie, just a singlet if I know we are going to be in the car longer than just down the road.

another great one! thanks! no to covers on the windows - we've got a very good tinting, but it happens even at night, and doesn't seem to be any better when it's cool ... he's just a little hot tamale man ...

definately - but we ended up having to take it out anyway, because it was pushing his head down, and we were worried about his neck, so out it came ... but he's forwards now, based on weight and length...

wowee!! J-man isn't at that point - though we do often have the pedestal fan on in his room to keep it circulating and to help a bit... and yes, singlet and nappy is sometimes his road gear

i was going to suggest the same thing. maybe get some shade cloths for the car windows, and then take some water spray bottles that you can spray when he seems to be getting too hot? it's hard when they're like that, DD was like that as a newborn, was just constantly sweating, but was also a baby that needed to be swaddled....Lol.

I read an interesting thing once.. you know ventilation pipe? like ducting pipe or whatever its called. Someone held or taped that to the car AC and piped it directly to the baby;s seat (removed it once bub was cool and car) but it helped keep baby cool on those hot days

If he is rearward facing you could drape a damp muslin over the anchor straps ITMS. If forward facing, a damp muslin over his lap or legs?
