I'm breastfeeding DD, but she requires a 'top up' after some feeds, as well as medication at her lunchtime feed that has to mixed with a bottle.
Had just about run out of frozen EBM so I bought some s26 original.
DD doesn't seem overly keen on it, but does drink it quite well.
After feeding it to her she doesn't seem to poop as much.
Yesterday she didn't poop all day until about 6pm and then there was a massive noise like nothing I've ever heard before, and I carefully unwrapped her and it has exploded out her leg and covered her in it. :-)
She did a similar one at 7am this morning. Could the formula be making her bowels play up?
When she was on EBM she would have 5-8 small poops a day.
Not just a massive explosion!!
Yes, formula can defiantely cause constipation.
When we switched my DS over to forumla (s26) he became so constipated that he was passing golf ball sized poos that felt like rocks.
The GP told me some formulas are worse than others, and told me to try and avoid s26 if I could.
I imagine as with most things, it would depend on the child though, but it might be worth changing to a different brand.
My DD has only been fed on formula and s26 made her really constipated. I now use Novalac which you can only get at the chemist and it is much easier on her bowels and she really enjoys it.
i'm not sure how old your DD is but as BF babies get a bit older, they can go quite a long time between poos. my DS could go up to 6 days without doing a poo when he was younger - but when they hit you have a poosplosion of epic proportions!
it could be the formula but they do go away from pooing every couple of hours to less often. if she's not straining to poo & it's not little pellets, then i didn't think it was actually constipation?
My bub requires a top up morn and night & we use formula. She has gone from 6 poos a day to one or two poos in 3 days. And we too had a major poo explosion.
