Unhappy Chipped tooth - more teeth dramas!

    Hello All,
I was changing Caden's nappy this morning and noticed he has chipped his top left tooth on the outer bottom edge. I am horrified! He is only 8 months old. I don't know when he did it as I have been checking his teeth carefully as he is teething and I am waiting for one to cut through. I only just looked yesterday and there was no chip I am sure!

Has anyone else had this? Should I take him to the dentist? I am not sure if it may have been there for a while and is now noticeable because the tooth has grown a bit.

    Arrrr

I know each of my boys has had a chip missing from one of their teeth, I've just let it be as they are baby teeth and as they grow it shouldn't be to noticable. But if you are worried you can give your dentist a call and see what they say>

    hugs xoxo

I have found two chipped teeth on DD this week, I think one happened in a fall so thats kind of acceptable but the second has happened when she was chewing on an empty pop top bottle. She is a refluxy baby and has had teeth since 4 months so I am worried that they have been weakened by the stomache acid. DH was at the dentist today and is going back next week so we will take DD for a check up to see if there is anything we can do.

Wow black rose, that is interesting. I have never heard of teeth being weakened by stomach acid though, even in adults, although some medications do weaken the teeth, so I guess it is possible. I suppose as long as they are getting enough calcium then they should be fine over time.

Good luck at the dentist, hopefully it is just one of "those things" that will go away. I don't even know how Caden chipped his tooth, he didn't have any particularly nasty fall that could have caused it, so it is a mystery to me.

    Hi there,

As a dentist I thought I'd put in my 2 cents worth. I wouldn't worry about the chip unless it seems like its worrying him. When there's enamel missing from a tooth it can be a little senstive. Things that will make it more sensitive are acidic things - so fruit and fruit juice especially (the only fruit that isn't overly acidic is bananas). The other ladies are right, stomach acid can weaken enamel on teeth as can eating a lot of fruit. Dairy on the other hand is great for teeth and cheese actually strengthens enamel.
