HELP!! CC room change means going from 2 to 1 day sleep, but DD isn't ready yet WWYD?
DD is going up to Baby Room 2 officially on the 12th of October.
In Baby Room 1 we set the routine, when sleeps happen, feeds etc.
Baby Room 2 it is much more structured, one routine for the whole group, in principal I don't have a problem with it, but the issues has been arising that DD needs more sleep at the moment.
When ever she has been in the other room and they have been putting her down for just the one sleep (as a part of the transitioning phase) she has been getting very very tired and some days only sleeping for 20min in the middle of the day. Ont he two occassions they continued with the two sleeps she slept beautifully.
I believe that the one sleep is getting her run down and she is having more trouble recovering from being ill. Today DD was up at 7:30am, went down at 10am, back up at 12, then I have had to pop her down again at 2pm as she was too tired, she is still not well, so the extra sleep is expected. Last time we came home from hosy she was on 3 days sleeps for a few days.
When did your baby or toddler go from 2-1 day sleeps?
Should I speak with the CC Director about the issue, and speak with her GP to get something in wiriting, I don't know what to do and it is only 1 week away for the full transition to be over
My DD has been swapping b/w 1 & 2 day sleeps over the past couple of weeks.
Before DLS she was awake from anywhere b/w 6-7 and up until 10 then slept until 11 or 12 then normally went for another nap about 3ish but i found she was harder to get to sleep at night and was waking a few times a night.
The last couple of days i have tried dragging her out til 11, which as it's been 7 til 11 hasn't been to hard, she then sleeps anywhere from 1 to 3 hours, she gets up, has lunch, a couple of snacks in the arvo, then tea and is down for the night.
Maybe if you gradually dragged her out 10min more each day until she had a nap from say 11, i have found if DD has a snack sometimes this helps and she gets her 2nd wind and is easier to get down at 11. Some people change lunch to then and put them down straight after lunch?
Sorry prob haven't helped much, have been struggling with it myself, especially with DLS now.
I cant remember when DS went to 1 sleep - i think it was around 18 months.... (he has been such a bad night sleeper that he needed his sleeps in the day..). what do the carers think? they must see that she is struggling with the 1 sleep...
Maybe they could allow her to have 2 sleeps (even in the baby room) for a little longer, esp as she has been unwell. I know at DS1 creche they have a couple of kids that have done that for a month or so while they transition. or you could get the schedule of what they do and try to follow that at home too - it may take a while but she may adjust ok? i did this when DS1 went to creche (he has been at FDC beforehand and much more free with time etc) and it helped. you may find she needs an earlier bed time perhaps?
I would speak to the room leader and maybe the director to see what they think you should do - maybe when she is settled in the room it will be better - i see most of the kids want to do what tje others are doing...
I think you should def speak to the director and get a GPs letter to back it up. Given DD hasn't been well and sleep is often when they heal, she obviously needs the extra sleep.
My DD is jsut a few weeks younger than your and we have gone back to 2 sleeps. She was only having one from about 8-9 months! I think maybe this age they need more sleep. I know my DD is so much more active now.
I can imagine it being a worry for you esp when DD has been so sick. I hope they can work something out for you. Maybe they can keep her in the younger room for a little while longer?
Thankyou for you advice and experiences,we have to see her GP tomorrow for a follow up check, so I will speak to him and see if he would support the sleep situation with a letter, and then speak with the room and if I have trouble go to the director.
I just know that she really needs more sleep, but I feel wrong about gaoing against their routine, but I want what is best for DD, and I think at the moment that is two day sleeps, until she gets over all of this stuff, which shouldn't be too far away
I spoke with the staff from Baby Room 1 this morning and they agreed that she still needed the two sleeps and that we can continue it when we transfer over, but over time we will get her to one sleep, which is completely fine with us, we just want to get her over this run of sickness and when she is a lot better then we can transition her to one day sleep
She has just started moving about more too, so defnitely burning a lot more energy as she is getting out and about, yesterday she only managed a 2 hour gap between her morning and afternoon sleeps and each of those were two hours, so definitely still in recovery mode.
DD2 has recently transitioned in the toddlers room, and she still needs 2 sleeps a day. They can't put her down for a second sleep in the toddlers sleep in the afternoons due to staff numbers, but as the babies' room has the staff capacity, they take her in there and she has 2nd sleep there. It works well for Emily and the staff, they don't mind doing it.
I hope something can be worked out.
