Unhappy This cradle cap is not budging

    Hi everyone

Well, I've tried everything. Moo Goo, Gaia, sorbolene......... nothing is moving the CC or the dry skin all over his scalp. I used conditioner for a while and that got rid of it momentarily, but it's back again. It doesn't bother him at all, it just really doesn't smell great and the dry scalp is more me being worried about how he looks. I love him and want him to look ummm.....baby-like - not like if you blew on him too hard he'd disintegrate in to a pile of dust. (that is a joke, of course).

The Dr has given me Resolve 0.5%, but not even that seems to be doing anything. The Resolve is working wonders for the little bit of eczema he had on his arms and tummy.

I wash him in water alone, but if I do that too long, the CC gets really stinky so I wash his hair with Gaia shampoo.

Do I just need to ride this out and suck it up? Or does anyone have anything for cradle cap/dry scalp that is the atomic bomb? Never had these issues with DS1.

    Thanks.

It's horrible stuff isn't it?! Have you tried bicarb soda? My MCHN advised me to use it and it worked a treat with both my boys.

You pour some into your hand, add a small amount of water to make it into a thick paste, then slather it all over the cradle cap. I used to do this at the beginning of their bath and wash it out at the end of bathtime. I think it took a few days to really work, but it did a great job.

    Good luck finding a solution!

i used to do the oil rub and soak thing and then use an eyebrow comb to scrape it off. i dunno if i should have been doing that but it was the only thing that used to loosen it off. just dont go scraping off too much that you irritate and redden the skin on the scalp.

Only thing that helped DS was olive oil. Put HEAPS on and then leave it for 10-15 mins. Get a fine tooth comb and brush the hair. Do that once a week til its gone...took maybe 2 weeks for DS's to go and then it never returned

I haven't tried the Bi-Carb. I'm going to give that one a shot.

I've tried the oil and it just made my little boy smell like an olive with cradle cap. I was "THIS" close to eating him............ nah, not really......... the cradle cap smell put me off thankfully.

Moogoo cream can sometimes help too.

Theres a product you can buy from the chemist too...in a little white bottle with pink writing, but cant think of the name....i used that on DD2 when she was a baby and it helped

Sorbolone cream overnight is good too

    ETA: Its called Egozite

A nit comb in the bath is the bomb for me, I use it around once a fortnight and it gets rid of it. I use sorbolene on it, then scrape it off with nit comb,

    Hope that helps! Good luck!

Just a quite note about the moo goo infant scalp cream. Best to put a thick layer on over the entire area at night when you put them to bed. Then wash out the next morning. I've never known this to not work. The oils need time to soak in and lift the cradle cap.

I have a big jat of parrafin wax DH was at a dermatologist and he recommended it. Its called dermeeze you can get it at the chemist. Like others have said you layer it on and then it comes off in the bath wth gentle massage or a comb.

With both gorls I had to take it off the cradle cap it never just came off but you need something to loosen it so it doesn't hurt.

I used to put baby oil in my DD's scalp morning and night and brush her hair/scalp with light to moderate pressure and a soft brush and I think from memory it cleared up quickly.

Hi hear you ... DP & i would say how DD's scalp smelt like a dog (how sad is that but true) ... and me too was worried about what others thought, like i don't bath her or something ... So, my maternal nurse recommended Hydraderm cream (get the one in the TUB not pump bottle as this one isn't concentrate or thick enough) ... Can buy Hydraderm in Priceline (buy the small tub at first to try it) ...

I would massage it into DD's dry scalp for about 5-10mins once a week in the morning & leave it on for 1 hour (or a tad longer) and then wash it off with just water while bathing her. Her hair would be a little greasy for about 2 days.

My Maternal Nurse & GP suggested to also do the old-fashion way & scrap off manually with your fingernails BUT be careful to not nick the skin !!

i use olive oil on Dd's when it flairs up.

the smell is concerning me though?
sure it isnt infected at all, as i didnt think Cc had an odour as it is generally dry dead skin that wouldnt lift off???

id be asking for a swab done to test for any nasty bugs that may be why its not budging he could have a skin infection.. very easy to get and easy to treat, some bactroban or medicated lotion will do the trick but best to get it tested first.

I used moogoo and then gently scraped it off with my fingernail when we were feeding. I do this about once a week. Oh and use her soap to shampoo her hair about once a week too. Let us know how you go

I only ever used Moo Goo once overnight on both my babies and all the cradle cap was gone completely when I washed it off the next morning and it never came back.

well, I tried the Bi Carb before his bath. He looked rather funny. I brushed his hair while he was in the bath and his head is now quite shiny. the cC is still there slightly, but no where near as pronounced as it was. I'll keep doing this for the next few days and see what results I get.
