    Crawling

I am sure plenty of people have posted thigs like this before, but I can't find them...
I am just wondering what age other people's babies started crawling. My son is nearly eleven months and not crawling. He doesn't move around at all really, maybe one or two rolls... But he will goone his belly and move in circles...
He loves to stand up thou7gh. Is it possible he might walk beofre he crawls? Is this bad for him?
I probably sound really stupid, but I just don't know and I would love some help or advice from other mums that might have been in my situation...

Definitely not bad for him. My daughter started crawling properly at 11 months, and it lasted till she was 17 months when she started walking. Before that she commando crawled everywhere. But she was standing. I got told some pretty awful things like because she didn't crawl properly she would lack motor skills, and that she would have physical problems. I then read in a magazine how a famous female swimmer only ever commando crawled and then walked and she had competed in the olympics

Its very possible that he might walk before he crawls.

Cailin, i'd be interested to know if Paris crawled (all fours style) since then, or she never crawled at all?

I know teachers that get all their (primary school) class on all fours to do crawling as apparently its really good for aiding kids learning in other areas..

My DD started commando crawling at bout just before 7 months months and properly crawling at 7.5 months.
But they are all different my nephew didn't crawl til around 11 months then at 12 months he was running so he did everything sort of at once.
Even at my mothers group we have bubs all roughly same age and they are all at different stages, some crawl, some don't, some stand really well, others don't, they all have there different things they do.
So try not to stress your son will do things when he is ready, one day he'll just do it or he may skip crawling all together and one day just get up and walk.

They are funny little things sometimes in the what order they choose to further their development. mine were 8mths, 4.5mths and 6mths when they crawled, so they varied a fair bit, but when one wasn't doing something, they could do something else instead that other babies of similar age couldn't do. I know of babies who didn't even crawl till over 12mths and others who never crawled at all.

he might just surprise you and do it all at once too.

Emily was 10 months old before she started crawling and it started out of nowhere really - one day she wasn't and the next day she was literally all over the place.
She walked at just on 13 months which is pretty average.
Toby is almost 8 months and I don't think he will crawl anytime soon.
Though he could prove me wrong - I posted two weeks ago that he wasn't going to get any teeth any time soon and a week later he got one LOL.

My DH apparently never crawled, waited until 13 months and got up one day and started walking, well running actually! And his motor skills are just fine. I wouldn't worry about it too much, they'll do it when they're ready.

Crawling is good for getting the left and right brain to communicate (or something similar-learnt it at uni) we get the younger kids at school to crawl as it was good for their development.
Riley only started crawling at 11 months, DD1 walked at 10 months sot hey all vary heaps.

Yep Ray Paris didn't crawl properly. She started doing it at 11 months, but very rarely did it still commando crawled by preference. And she was talking up a storm quite early. She now is pretty bright I'd say, and has fine motor skills.

Olivia never crawled. To this day she still hasn't crawled. I mentioned it in another post, but she didn't roll either: we had to teach her how to do it when she was 11 months.

Olivia only bum shuffled at 12 months. Never crawled, just dragged herself along on her bum. She didn't weight bare till 15 months, and didn't walk till 19.5 months. She is now 3 and runs me ragged...........
